The secret developer room in Chop Chop Inc sits behind a hidden door at the back of the tunnel that also leads to the mine, close to the Woodman Corp wooden building. Walking through the door with the right tool pops the Steam achievement “You found our secret base.” The catch is that the door only gives way to the Stone Axe, so you need to finish an early crafting chain before the room becomes reachable.
Quick answer: Craft the Stone Axe (bridge → windmill clogs → pink-leaf Stone Wood → grindstone upgrade), then go to the tunnel near the start, walk into the pitch-black section at the back, turn right, reach the traffic cone, turn left, and hit the door with the Stone Axe to enter and unlock the achievement.
What you need before the door will open
Treat this as a tool problem first. The starter Wooden Axe will not break the hidden door, so seeing the door without the Stone Axe only costs you a return trip. The Stone Axe is gated behind a short sequence of early progression steps rather than any late-game area, despite how “secret dev room” sounds.
| Requirement | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Bridge across the water | Build it as part of opening progression |
| Clogs (walk on water) | Repair the windmill to receive them |
| Stone Wood | Cross to the island with the pink-leaf Stone Tree and chop it |
| Stone Axe | Upgrade the Grindstone, then craft the axe |

Find the secret dev room in the tunnel
Head to the tunnel near the starting entrance, the same passage that gives access to the mine. Do not turn this into a search of Snowy Mountain or the deep mines. The room is here, gated only by the Stone Axe and by knowing where to turn.

How to confirm the achievement unlocked
Stepping across the threshold into the developer room is what triggers “You found our secret base” on Steam. Door visibility alone does not count, so you must actually enter the room for the achievement to register. Make sure the game is connected to Steam so it pops on your profile.
Why the door won’t open
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Door is visible but won’t break | You still have the Wooden Axe equipped; craft and equip the Stone Axe |
| No door appears at all | Reset from the black section, then enter darkness → turn right → reach the cone → turn |
| Achievement did not pop | You saw the door but did not step inside; walk fully into the room |
Note: if you are searching the bright part of the tunnel entrance, you are in the wrong spot. The turn only works from the dark section deeper in the passage.
What’s inside the developer room
The first area holds eight hand gestures and a hamster sprinting on a wheel. It is a straightforward set of easter eggs with nothing you need to interact with for the unlock.

The next room has a single tree that cycles through every type when you hit it. It starts as an apple tree and shifts to walnut, then birch, metal tree, electric tree, palm tree, stone tree, crystal tree, and back to apple. The Golden Axe works well for cycling it quickly.

The main room is packed with references, including an axe named Chopper that you can grab. Keep in mind Chopper carries a Stamina -20 effect, so it is more of a novelty pickup than a practical everyday tool.

You will also see a set of computers and the developers themselves floating in balloons, each labeled with a name: Kathy, Wolfgang, Daniel, Felix, Paul, and Sebastien. It is a small behind-the-scenes tribute rather than a gameplay reward, and once you have stepped inside, the achievement is already yours.
