The Sei Whale is an Exotic-rarity catch that appears in the Ocean during a migration event, and it only shows up when the world conditions line up. Unlike a random ocean pull, it announces itself in chat before it becomes catchable, which means you can force the spawn instead of waiting for one.

Quick answer: Use a Windset Totem to force Windy weather and a Sundial Totem to push the cycle to Night, wait for the message “A Sei Whale is skimming the surface…”, then sail the Orca / Whale route with Krill equipped and complete the reeling minigame.

Sei Whale spawn conditions and catch stats

The whale has fixed preferences, and every one of them is something you can control or wait out. Weather and cycle are the two that actually gate the spawn message, so those are the ones worth forcing with totems.

Note: Summer is a preference, not a requirement. If the server is in another season you can still trigger and land the whale, you just give up the bonus.

How to force the Sei Whale spawn with totems

Place a Windset Totem to change the weather. The chat confirms it with “There is now a heavy breeze.” That heavy breeze is the Windy state the whale needs.
Place a Sundial Totem to speed up the day and night cycle. You will see “The celestials are moving significantly faster.” Let it run until the server flips over to Night.

Watch chat for “A Sei Whale is skimming the surface…”. That message is the confirmation the migration has started. Nothing before it counts, so do not sail out early.
Equip Krill as your bait before you leave the dock. Swapping bait mid-chase costs you time on a timed event.
Take a boat out to the Orca / Whale route in the open ocean and cast along the path the whales travel. Hook the Sei Whale and finish the reeling minigame to secure it.

How to confirm the catch worked

A successful reel opens the catch screen with the whale listed as Exotic and its location set to Ocean, alongside the weight of the individual fish you landed. If that screen appears, the fish is yours and it registers in your records.

If the spawn never happens, the cause is almost always one of two things. Either the weather is not Windy, or the cycle has not reached Night yet. Re-check both before spending another totem, since the announcement will not fire until both states are active at the same time.

Crew Statues and the Crimson Tides surfboard

Statues now stand near the Crew Herald and act as monthly leaderboards for crews. They track four categories, so you can see where your crew ranks without digging through menus.

  • Total Catches
  • Rarest Catch
  • Crew Rating
  • Biggest Fish

The Sunshell Merchant also stocks a new surfboard-style boat called Crimson Tides, priced at 32,401 Sunshells. Alongside that, the update pass adjusted stats on a range of fishing rods, so it is worth checking your main rod before a long whale session.

The whole loop comes down to two totems and one bait. Once you have a Windset Totem and a Sundial Totem banked, you can trigger the migration on demand rather than waiting for the server to roll a windy night on its own, which makes the Sei Whale one of the more repeatable Exotic catches in the game.
