How to Find the St. Mihai Symbol and Crypt in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Learn the symbol, uncover Albertus' grave, and beat Mihai to finish A Monk and a Saint.

Learn the symbol, uncover Albertus’ grave, and beat Mihai to finish A Monk and a Saint.

A Monk and a Saint sends you into The Cathedral Complex in Svartrau City to open St. Mihai’s Crypt and claim the weapon hidden with him. The lock on this quest is knowledge. Coen cannot pick out the right grave until he knows what the St. Mihai Symbol looks like, so the whole task splits into two jobs. First you learn the symbol, then you match it to a grave in the western graveyard and free Mihai.

Quick answer: Learn the St. Mihai Symbol (read The Annals of Svartrau Cathedral in the library, read the Thief’s Note during Night Terrors, or inspect the ceiling murals), then go to the western graveyard, start from the bottom right grave, move one grave to the left, clean off the leaves, and drop in to reach the Crypt. Inspect the broken brick inside to fight Mihai.

Three ways to learn the St. Mihai Symbol

You cannot guess the correct grave in this quest, so you have to identify the symbol first. Any one of the options below teaches Coen the marking. Pick whichever is fastest for where you are in the story, since they all lead to the same result.

MethodWhereTime cost
Read The Annals of Svartrau CathedralTop floor of The Cathedral Complex library, next to the cathedral1 hour
Read the Thief’s NoteOn the thief’s body inside the well, during the Night Terrors quest1 hour
Inspect the ceiling muralsInside The Cathedral Complex0 hours

The Annals confirm that Mihai was buried beneath the cathedral. The Thief’s Note comes from the corpse you inspect after sliding down the covered well, and it explains that someone already tried to reach the crypt but hit a wall too thick to break. The murals are the quickest route because they cost no in-game time.

Note: The Night Terrors well passage also empties out right next to the graves, so if you clear that quest you arrive at the graveyard already knowing the symbol.

Find Albertus’ Crypt in the western graveyard

With the symbol known, head to the western part of The Cathedral Complex where the graves sit. This is the same courtyard used for Night Terrors, so the approach may already be open to you.

Clear the guards stationed around the well if you skipped that fight earlier. The area needs to be safe before you can inspect the graves without interruption.
Interact with the stone tablets on the ground. Each one is buried under leaves and dirt, and Coen sweeps them clean so you can check for the St. Mihai Symbol. He tells you whether you uncovered the right grave.
To skip straight to the correct grave, start from the bottom right corner and move one grave to the left. It is the tablet centered at the front, between the tree on the right and the grave with the cross for a headstone on the left. Clean off the leaves and hop inside to enter St. Mihai’s Crypt. Loot the coffins on your way down for extra items.

Free Mihai and win the boss fight

Inside the Crypt, walk to the room in the middle. Turn on Focus Mode to highlight the one object you can interact with.
Inspect the broken brick set into the wall. This action costs one hour and releases Mihai, the Patron Saint of the Cathedral, dropping you straight into the boss fight.
Defeat Mihai. He is old and decayed but hits hard, so watch the attack indicators. A skull icon marks an unblockable strike you must dodge, while a shield icon means you can block or parry and open a counter.

After the fight, Mihai reveals that he was betrayed by Tobias and that the Kohboldin took the other half of his blade, the Sword of St. Mihai. He asks you to recover and reforge it, and points you toward The Augurs for help as a Dawnwalker. Before you leave, use Focus Mode to loot his cell and grab Mihai’s Journal, which sets up the reforge path.
