The cows penned near the entrance to White Orchard were once the fastest early money in The Witcher 3. Players would slaughter them for hide, meditate to respawn the herd, and repeat until they could buy strong gear far ahead of schedule. Patch 1.05 shut that down with a joke instead of a nerf. Keep killing the cows and the game answers with a skull-marked Chort, nicknamed the Bovine Defense Force, that will flatten an underleveled Geralt in seconds.
Quick answer: Kill the two cows at the pen by the village entrance, meditate to respawn them, and repeat until you have killed them three times. A level 27 Chort then charges in.

How to summon the secret Chort in White Orchard
The trigger is the old farming loop itself. You kill the cows, reset the clock with meditation, and keep going until the game decides you have been greedy enough. It takes three rounds of killing the pair.

If nothing appears, turn away from the forest edge for a moment. The Chort sometimes needs you facing a different direction before it spawns.

Add to Google Preferences →Let the White Orchard guards kill the Chort for you
Fighting this Chort alone at low level is a quick way to a loading screen, and on Deathmarch it is not worth attempting. The reliable play is to let the town’s armed guards do the work. They will engage the beast on sight, so your only job is to stay alive and keep it moving toward them.

Fighting the Chort solo: weaknesses and tactics
If you want the kill yourself, lead the Chort away from the village first so you do not accidentally start a fight with the Nilfgaardians. The creature is a Relict that charges straight at you and swings with a long claw reach, so distance is your main defense. Dodge rolling, not blocking, keeps you out of its path.
| Property | Detail |
|---|---|
| Class | Relict |
| Recommended sword | Silver |
| Oil | Relict oil |
| Weak to | Devil’s Puffball |
| Immune to | Aard |
Coat your silver sword with Relict oil for bonus damage. Throw a Devil’s Puffball bomb to halt the Chort’s rapid regeneration, cast Quen to shield yourself, then strike it from behind inside the poison cloud. Yrden slows it and helps pin it in the cloud, while Axii can stun it long enough for a few free hits. Do not lean on Aard, since the Chort’s bulk and four-legged stance make it largely immune.

Confirming the kill and looting the Chort
You know it worked when the Chort collapses in the field or on the bridge. Loot its corpse for crafting materials and mutagens that normally take until the early-to-mid game to gather. Expect Chort hide, raw meat, a Chort mutagen, and monster parts such as a monster ear and monster tongue, along with green and lesser red mutagens.
A second Chort can occasionally spawn after the first one dies, which makes this a tidy way to stock up on mutagens if you are prepared for another round. This is one of several easy-to-miss encounters packed into White Orchard, so it is worth clearing the whole area before you move on.
