Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted: Characters, Bounties, and Perks Explained

How the roguelike survival mode's runs, character unlocks, perks, and crossover armor work in the Ghost of Yotei expansion.

How the roguelike survival mode’s runs, character unlocks, perks, and crossover armor work in the Ghost of Yotei expansion.

Most Wanted is the single-player roguelike survival mode added to Ghost of Yotei alongside the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion. You pick a bounty, fight through escalating waves of enemies, pick up perks along the way, and chase down a member of the Yotei Six as the final target. It is built on the game’s core combat, but each run pushes you to experiment with different characters and builds.

Quick answer: Choose a bounty targeting one of the Yotei Six, clear six stages of enemies with a miniboss at stage three, draft one perk per stage, and spend the Mon you earn between runs to unlock new characters and upgrades.

You can open Most Wanted straight from the main menu. It does not require any campaign progress, so it is playable as soon as the content is installed.

How a Most Wanted run works

Every run starts at the bounty board, where each bounty is tied to a different member of the Yotei Six. A run is a gauntlet of six stages. You clear waves of enemies, face a miniboss at the third stage, and fight the bounty target as the final boss at the sixth stage. The minibosses are characters you have already fought in the base game.

The bounties run in increasing order of difficulty:

  • Hunting the Spider
  • Hunting the Kitsune
  • Hunting the Oni
  • Hunting the Snake
  • Hunting the Dragon
  • Hunting Lord Saito

The Lord Saito encounter is the most demanding bounty; it becomes available after you clear a set number of different bounties. You can also replay any bounty at a higher difficulty. Tougher runs feature a wider enemy mix—archers, brutes, and shield bearers—and reaching the final stage requires making effective use of the resources available during that run.

Playable characters and loadouts

Most Wanted features four hunters you can play. Atsu is ready from the outset, while spending Mon unlocks the other three. After the entire roster is unlocked, pick any hunter before beginning a run. Each one has a katana, their own special weapons, an Ultimate, and a Kill Streak ability.

CharacterWeaponsUltimateKill Streak
AtsuDual katana, Metsubushi, Blind BombCall of the Pack (summons two wolves)Onryo’s Howl (terrifies nearby enemies)
OyukiKusarigama, kunai, tanegashima rifleShadow Killer (smoke, then kills two enemies)Shadow Shinobi (summons a Nine Tails ally)
NagatoYari, tanzutsu pistol, yumi and hankyu bowsGambler’s Mark (guaranteed headshots on two targets)Blast Arrow (refills Concentration, explosive arrow)
Jin SakaiKatana with four Tsushima stances, Sticky Bomb, hankyuDance of Wrath (disarms multiple enemies)Ghost Stance (instant kills a limited number of enemies)

Atsu is the starting hunter and leans on her dual katana and Ghost Tools. Oyuki mixes close-range bladed weapons with a rifle. Nagato is the ranged specialist, built around bows, a spear, and a pistol.

Jin Sakai, the protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, is the headline unlock. He uses his katana with all four stances from the first game, letting you exploit enemy weaknesses the same way, and he begins each run with a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu short bow.

How to unlock Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin

The three locked hunters are gated behind how much Mon you have spent overall on skills, weapon upgrades, and other purchases. You unlock them in order, and you cannot skip ahead by saving up for a later character. The spending thresholds are:

CharacterTotal Mon spent
Oyuki3,500
Nagato10,200
Jin Sakai28,800

You know a hunter is available when they appear on the Choose Hunter screen before a run instead of showing as locked.

Perks and building a run

Perks are how you shape each run. As you progress, you are regularly offered three random perks and choose one. These cover weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parry upgrades, and survivability, among others. Mixing and matching them is what makes each attempt feel different, so two runs with the same hunter can play very differently depending on what you draft.

Some perks are rare and more powerful, such as effects that restore health on each kill. Since offerings are random, plan your build around what shows up rather than a fixed plan from the start.

Spending Mon between runs

Mon is the currency you earn while playing Most Wanted. You spend it outside of runs on new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and the character unlocks above. These purchases are permanent, so progress carries forward even when a run ends early. Because character unlocks track your total spending, every upgrade you buy also pushes you toward the next hunter.

Crossover armor you can unlock

Playing Most Wanted unlocks several new armor sets that double as nods to other PlayStation games. The confirmed sets are:

  • The Last of Us (modeled on the Clickers)
  • Astro Bot
  • Helldivers
  • Journey

Once you earn these in Most Wanted, you can wear them beyond the mode. They carry over into the Echoes of Sekigahara story, Atsu’s original campaign, and the Legends co-op mode, so the time spent in Most Wanted feeds directly back into the rest of the game.
