Outward 2 has a confirmed Early Access launch date. The survival action-RPG sequel from Nine Dots Studio opens to players on February 8, 2027, coming to three PC storefronts at once. A gameplay and release date trailer shown during the Triple-i Initiative’s October 2026 showcase set the date and gave a long look at how the game plays.
Quick answer: Outward 2 enters Early Access on February 8, 2027 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.com. No specific launch hour or time zone has been confirmed.
Release status and platforms
The release is confirmed for Early Access, not a full 1.0 launch. That means the game ships in a playable but still-in-development state, with more content added over time. The date applies to all three PC stores together.

What Outward 2 is
Outward 2 is a third-person survival action-RPG built around preparation and harsh conditions. The trailer’s narrator frames the world as unforgiving, where gear, traps, weather, and planning decide whether you survive an encounter. Rather than making the player an all-powerful hero, the design leans on resource management and adapting to dangerous situations.
The footage travels from fog-filled ravines and snowbound mountain basins to sandstone summits at daybreak and campfires after dark. Your avatar is customizable: outfits span airy road robes and broad-brimmed ranger hats through sturdy leather and knight-style armor. The character usually carries a large backpack and fights with a weapon and shield.
Combat, traps, and enemies
Combat is melee-forward with stamina costs attached. The trailer flashes a “Not Enough Stamina” prompt during a fight, confirming that attacks and actions draw from a stamina pool you have to manage. Expect duels against human foes as well as larger beasts.

Traps play into encounter setup. In one clip, two explorers watch from a cliff edge as a lure trap detonates beneath a glowing plant-like creature before they move in. Enemies include humanoids, quadruped beasts, antlered creatures, a multi-eyed avian creature, and a massive spined boss.

Rune magic and skills
Magic is performed through rune casting. In a dark cave, a robed mage unleashes glowing rune spells; the trailer identifies Rune: Fal as one cast that sets spell effects in motion. Round rune glyphs form on the ground during magical combat.
A skill screen is shown too, splitting abilities into Active and Passive slots, with quickslots and categories like Weapon Skill. The menu labels suggest skills are organized Per Skill and Per Trainer, pointing to a trainer-based progression setup.
Gear and inventory weight
Inventory management carries real weight limits. The menu separates equipped Equipment, a Pouch, and a Bag, each with its own capacity. The trailer shows a pouch at 10 / 10 and a bag reading 85 / 40, so overloading beyond capacity is clearly part of the system.
Weapons and armor come with detailed stats. The Old Legion Shield lists durability of 365/365, attack speed, a stamina cost, physical and impact damage values, plus modifiers like Physical Offense and Block Impact Resistance. One-handed weapons such as the Old Legion Sabre pair with shields, and the loadout options extend to bows and magical staves. Items can be equipped, assigned to a quickslot, moved to pockets, dropped, or salvaged.
Local split-screen co-op
Outward 2 supports local split-screen cooperative play, carried over from the series’ co-op focus. The trailer switches into a horizontal split-screen view, showing two players exploring and dodging at the same time, then fighting side by side against a giant armored boss.

Co-op also includes a revive mechanic. A “Hold (X) Revive Ally” prompt appears during play, so downed partners can be brought back in the field rather than losing the run outright.
For now, the February 8, 2027 date is the firm piece of information to watch. If you want to be ready for launch day, the game will go live on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.com, with the rest of its roadmap to follow through the Early Access period.
