Lohen team comps in Genshin Impact: Melt, Freeze, and F2P picks

The exact teammates that unlock Lohen's Witch's Eve Rite passive and feed his Will to Win resource for top damage.

The exact teammates that unlock Lohen’s Witch’s Eve Rite passive and feed his Will to Win resource for top damage.

Lohen is a 5-Star Cryo polearm DPS who spends most of a rotation planted on the field, applying Cryo while his teammates do damage in the background. His kit revolves around two resources. He builds Joy from his own Normal and Charged Attacks, and his party members generate Will to Win (also called Triumph) by dealing damage while he is in his Stratagem state. Because he is a Hexerei character, he also wants at least one other Hexerei unit beside him to unlock his Witch’s Eve Rite passive.

Quick answer: The strongest Lohen team is Lohen + Durin + Nicole + a flex unit such as Citlali or Xilonen for Melt. For a budget setup, run Lohen + Prune + Xiangling + Bennett. Always include at least one other Hexerei character so Witch’s Eve Rite is active.

How Lohen’s team requirements work

Two mechanics decide who belongs in a Lohen team. First, his Witch’s Eve Rite passive only activates when a second Hexerei character is on the team, so one slot is effectively reserved for a Hexerei unit. Second, his Will to Win resource fills faster when a teammate deals a large chunk of damage from off-field. That pushes you toward a sub-DPS that hits hard while Lohen stays on the field.

Lohen can run either Melt or Freeze, but Melt usually produces his highest personal damage. In Melt, his rapid Cryo attacks set up off-field Pyro hits that trigger the reaction repeatedly. Forward Melt, which is Pyro applied onto Cryo, carries a x2 multiplier, so consistent off-field Pyro is the goal.

Best Melt teammates for Lohen

The Pyro sub-DPS slot is the most important one. Durin is the standout choice because he checks every box at once. He is a 5-Star Hexerei character, so he satisfies the two-Hexerei requirement on his own. In his Dragon of Dark Decay (Denial of Darkness) mode he deals heavy off-field damage, applies steady Pyro, and feeds Will to Win quickly. His personal damage sits close to Lohen’s, and no other Pyro sub-DPS matches that off-field output, which is why setups without him generate Will to Win far slower.

RoleBest pickWhy it works
Pyro sub-DPSDurinHexerei unit, strong off-field Pyro and damage, fills Will to Win fast.
Pyro sub-DPS (4-star)XianglingFast off-field Pyro and solid damage, but needs high Energy Recharge.
Pyro sub-DPS (alt)MavuikaOff-field Pyro plus a post-Burst damage buff; can also out-damage Lohen as the on-fielder.
Buff supportNicoleHexerei unit, teamwide ATK buff, shield, and a 40% DMG buff from the Celestial Gift set.
Buff support (4-star)BennettStrong budget alternative to Nicole.

Nicole is the highest-value support because her buffs are teamwide, so they boost both Lohen and Durin at the same time. Her shield also keeps Lohen from being interrupted mid-combo, which protects his uptime. A Melt team copes better without Nicole than without Durin, but losing her still drops Lohen below his peak.

Flex slot options for Melt

The final slot is flexible and can lean toward more damage or more survivability:

  • Citlali provides a shield, reduces enemy Pyro resistance, and buffs Cryo damage through the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City set.
  • Xilonen heals, shreds resistance based on your party’s elements, and adds a DMG buff with the same Cinder City set.
  • Albedo helps with the Witch’s Eve Rite passive, builds Will to Win, and can hold the Celestial Gift set if no one else needs it.
  • Emilie adds off-field Dendro and Burning, which keeps Pyro on enemies for more consistent Melt.
  • Prune at C6 brings extra ATK buffs, unlocks Witch’s Eve Rite, and can run Viridescent Venerer.
  • Other Hexerei units like Sucrose or Venti can fill the slot to enable the passive or carry Celestial Gift.

TeamNotes
Lohen, Durin, Nicole, XilonenTop damage core with resistance shred and healing.
Lohen, Durin, Nicole, CitlaliPremium pick; Citlali adds shield, Pyro RES shred, and Cryo buff.
Lohen, Durin, Nicole, PruneExtra ATK buffs and Anemo utility in the flex slot.
Lohen, Mavuika, Nicole, CitlaliMavuika as the off-field Pyro option.
Lohen, Durin, Nicole, EmilieBurning variant for steadier Pyro application.
Lohen, Xiangling, Bennett, AlbedoLower-investment, 4-star-heavy lineup.

Note: Adding Emilie for Burning lowers overall team DPS slightly, but it lets Lohen trigger more Melts than Durin, so he contributes more personal damage as the on-field carry.

Lohen Freeze teams

Freeze is playable but usually not Lohen’s strongest archetype for personal damage, partly because he competes with Skirk, who can outperform him in that role. To meet the Hexerei requirement here, Mona slots in as the Hydro character. Despite the trade-off, these teams remain viable, and Lohen’s own damage still makes up a meaningful share of total output.

F2P and budget Lohen team

A free-to-play build still needs a second Hexerei unit, and the 4-star options include Fischl, Prune, and Sucrose. A common budget lineup is Lohen + Prune + Xiangling + Bennett. Prune raises Lohen’s ATK%, deals off-field Anemo damage, and triggers Swirl, which activates her extra Hexerei buff for a 30% ATK boost to Lohen and spreads Cryo to nearby enemies. That spread helps Xiangling’s Pyronado land more Melts, while Bennett and Xiangling together provide Pyro Resonance for added team ATK.

Lohen still functions without Durin or Nicole, but his ceiling drops noticeably. He pairs best with Durin specifically because their personal damage is roughly equal, and Nicole’s teamwide buffs amplify both. If you are clearing the hardest endgame content consistently, that premium core matters; for everyday content, a well-built budget team holds up fine.
