Naughty Dog’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, now has a reported release window of 2027 on PlayStation 5. The claim comes from industry insider NateTheHate, who said the studio is internally aiming for that year. Sony has not made this official, and no month, date, or price has been confirmed.
Quick answer: Treat 2027 as an internal target, not a confirmed release date. It only becomes real when Naughty Dog or PlayStation announces it at an official showcase or on their own channels.
Where the 2027 date comes from
The 2027 window surfaced right after Sony confirmed that God of War: Laufey lands on February 16, 2027. An X user asked NateTheHate whether that meant Intergalactic would slip to 2028. His reply was direct.
2027 is the intended target.
NateTheHate has a solid record with these calls, having flagged the Star Fox remake and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake before Nintendo announced them. That track record is why the 2027 claim carries weight, even without an official date attached.
A 2027 launch would let Sony ship two major first-party PS5 games in the same year, with God of War: Laufey arriving in February and Intergalactic potentially following later. Earlier chatter had pointed at a summer window, in part because Naughty Dog’s past releases have tended to land between May and August, and because the studio was reported to be hiring language QA testers, a sign a game is nearing its final stretch.
An earlier leak from insider TCMFGames also placed Intergalactic in 2027 as part of a wider look at Naughty Dog’s schedule, which lined up a new Uncharted around 2028 and put The Last of Us Part 3 in very early development.

Development status behind the timeline
Intergalactic has been in the works for about six years. Naughty Dog started it after The Last of Us Part II shipped in 2020, and the game was revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024. Since that reveal, the studio has stayed quiet about when it actually comes out.
Neil Druckmann leads the roughly 250-person team as creative director and writer, with game directors Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau and narrative director Claire Carré. Druckmann has described it as the studio’s most expansive and likely most expensive project, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are composing the score. Druckmann stepped away from his creative role on The Last of Us TV series in July 2025 to focus on the game.
Reports of a demanding push have also shaped the timeline talk. From late October to mid-December 2025, staff were asked to work at least eight extra hours per week (capped at 60) and return to the office five days a week to finish an internal demo for Sony’s review. That kind of crunch usually signals a team trying to stay on schedule for a target window.
What the game is about
Set around two thousand years in the future, Intergalactic drops you into an alternate universe where advanced space travel already existed by 1986. You play as veteran bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, voiced by Tati Gabrielle, who becomes stranded on the isolated planet Sempiria while chasing the “Five Aces” crime syndicate.
Sempiria has been cut off from the rest of the galaxy for more than 600 years, and no one has left it in that time. Jordan has to survive blade-wielding robots, uncover the planet’s history, and become the first person in six centuries to escape. It is Naughty Dog’s first brand-new property since the original The Last of Us in 2013.
How to confirm the release date when it lands
You will know the date is real when it comes from Naughty Dog or PlayStation directly, most likely at a State of Play or a showcase like The Game Awards, rather than from an insider reply on social media. Until that happens, 2027 stays a strong rumor with a credible source behind it.
One extra wrinkle worth keeping in mind: if the game does arrive in 2027, it could be among the last first-party PlayStation titles to get a physical disc, since Sony is set to wind down disc production in 2028. For now, the smart move is to watch for an official announcement and treat every unconfirmed month or window as subject to change.
