Emma can carry a full set of swords in Beast of Reincarnation, and swapping between them mid-fight is how you counter a boss or Elite Enemy weakness on the spot. Each blade has its own element and passive effect, and almost none of them are hidden behind tricky detours. Most arrive through the main story, a handful drop from mandatory fights, and a couple are bought from a wandering merchant.
Quick answer: You begin with the Purifier Blade and Mechblade (Standard). The Cirrus Sword, Hunter’s Sword and Sunrise Sword are unmissable story pickups; the Thunderwave Sword drops from a required Elite; and Purity and the Bell Sword are sold by a Merchant Golem before the Chapter 3 Nushi’s lair.
Every early sword, element and effect
Use the table to see what each blade brings before you go hunting. Elements matter most against enemies weak to a specific damage type, while the passive effects reward a particular playstyle such as sustain, staggering, or status build-up.
| Sword | Element | Passive effect | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purifier Blade | None | Stagger reduced by 1 for 6 seconds when Emma takes damage | Starting weapon |
| Mechblade (Standard) | None | Increases attack 3 damage by 1.05x for 5 seconds | Starting weapon |
| Cirrus Sword | Impact | Raises Emma and Koo’s damage by 1.03x for 5 seconds | Given by a Golem in Chapter 1 |
| Thunderwave Sword | Shock | Each slash calls lightning on nearby foes for Lightning build-up | Elite Enemy drop, late Chapter 2 |
| Hunter’s Sword | Poison | Poisons the blade for Poison build-up | Given by a Golem in Chapter 3 |
| Purity | None | Restores HP equal to 5% of damage dealt for 5 seconds | Merchant Golem in Chapter 3 |
| Bell Sword | Impact | Increases knockback by 1.03x for 5 seconds | Merchant Golem in Chapter 3 |
| Sunrise Sword | Flame | Each swing casts flames for slash damage and Flame build-up | Found at the start of Chapter 4 |

Emma already holds both the Purifier Blade and the Mechblade (Standard) when the game opens, so there is nothing to track down. The Purifier Blade leans defensive, cutting your stagger for a few seconds after you take a hit, and later upgrades let it clear status effects and reduce stagger further.

The Mechblade (Standard) is the more aggressive of the pair. It briefly boosts the damage of your third attack, and upgrading it adds critical chance on top of a bigger attack-3 bonus.

Story swords you cannot miss
Three blades are handed to you or placed directly in your path during required story beats. You will collect all three simply by finishing each chapter’s main objective.
Cirrus Sword (Chapter 1)
In Chapter 1 you follow the Nushi, Rangifer, back to its lair. At the entrance you meet a locked door that needs three keys and a weak Golem standing nearby. Speak to him and he points out the Cirrus Sword and tells you to take it, so there is no way to walk past it. Its Impact element pairs with a damage buff for Emma and Koo that later upgrades stretch to a longer window.

Hunter’s Sword (Chapter 3)
While chasing the Nue Malefact through Chapter 3, you ride an elevator and reach a Mysterious Golem sitting beside a Camp. Talk to him and he asks to share a story. Sit through it, and afterwards he gestures to the Hunter’s Sword resting next to him and tells you to take it. This is your first Poison blade, applying Poison build-up with every strike.

Sunrise Sword (Chapter 4)
The Sunrise Sword sits jammed into the ground right at the opening of Chapter 4, just before a fight with a group of fanatic Golems. You walk straight into it, so it is impossible to overlook. Its Flame element casts fire on each swing, adding slash damage and Flame build-up that upgrades push higher.

Thunderwave Sword, dropped by a required Elite
Near the end of Chapter 2, an Elite Enemy Golem drops the Thunderwave Sword. You run into him shortly after powering the gate in the reservoir, and beating him is mandatory to keep going, so the drop is guaranteed. It is a Shock-element blade that calls lightning down on nearby foes with each slash for Lightning build-up, which upgrades increase.

Purity and Bell Sword, bought from the Merchant Golem
Toward the end of Chapter 3, just before the boss arena and beside the Old Sagami Colony: Approach Camp, a Merchant Golem sets up shop ahead of the Nushi’s lair. He sells both Purity and the Bell Sword, so you buy them rather than find them lying around.
Purity is the standout of the two for staying alive, since it heals Emma for 5% of the damage she deals over a short window, and upgrades raise that recovery. The Bell Sword instead leans into breaking enemies, boosting Emma’s knockback so foes stagger to the ground faster.

More swords found later in the game
Beyond the early set, additional blades turn up across later regions, either as world pickups, boss rewards, or wandering merchant stock. If you are aiming to collect them all, these are the ones to keep an eye out for.
| Sword | Effect | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Mechblade (Light) | Mech Slash: Light, boosts attack 2 damage | Small building on the east side of the Ogouchi Buffer Zone, near the Ruined Tower Area camp |
| Resonance Sword | Puppet’s Call, chance to turn weaker foes into puppets | Sticking out of the ground by a lore painting during the Matsukawa Colony objective |
| Hazebringer | Caustic Touch, adds acid build-up | Center of the cube-shaped area in the Matsukawa Zone |
| Shark Cutter | Spiral Critical, raises Emma and Koo’s critical chance | Near the center of the Fuji Frontier Zone during “Chase Shidou’s malefact” |
| Spring Storm | Damage-oriented effect | Crater Zone, during the “Cavern Gates” objective |
| Silverlight | Flurry, increases slash damage | Sticking out of the ground on the way to the Crimson Malefact in the Inukami River Zone |
| Black Blossom | Poison Storm, calls poison lightning for lightning and poison build-up | Rewarded for defeating the Crimson Malefact, granted at the Cleanse Walker |
| Fall Thunder | Lightning Edge, applies Lightning build-up | Near the Giant Tree: Bulkhead Entrance camp in the Giant Tree Zone |
| Camellia | Spring Thunder, adds lightning build-up and slash damage | On the Cleanse Walker after defeating Kirin Malefact and Kunai |
| Kanzashi | Robes of Reincarnation, creates an HP-restoring barrier | Added to your inventory in New Game Plus after beating the game |
| Big Dipper | — | Deluxe Edition bonus |
Note: The Big Dipper is tied to the Deluxe Edition. If you own the Standard Edition and want it, you can upgrade to the Deluxe Edition through your console’s storefront and claim it from there.
You will know a sword is yours the moment it appears in Emma’s weapon inventory, ready to equip and swap in during combat. Since so many arrive along the critical path, the fastest way to round out the collection is to keep pushing the main story and talk to every Golem who stops you along the way.
