Assault Records in Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve are a running log of the elite pilots you knock out of the sky across the campaign. The full set contains 83 entries, split into two very different groups: 52 that fill in on their own, and 31 that only exist if you play on the right difficulty and meet a hidden condition inside the mission.
Quick answer: The first 52 records (Lux Lunae squadrons) appear automatically on any difficulty. The other 31 are named enemy aces that only spawn on Veteran difficulty or higher after you satisfy each mission’s specific trigger.

The two kinds of Assault Records
Entries 1–52 cover special units, with most tied to the 11th Tactical Squadron, Lux Lunae. They appear automatically in scripted sequences and count on all difficulty settings, requiring no special action to record. Simply complete the missions featuring those squadrons.
The remaining 31 are named enemy aces. Each one is tied to a single mission and will only enter the airspace once you complete a set condition, such as clearing a wave fast enough or flying through a specific piece of terrain. Shooting one down also grants a unique paint scheme for that ace’s aircraft type, which you can then use in campaign mode.

Named aces do not appear on the lower difficulties. You must run the mission on Veteran, Elite, or Ace for the ace to spawn at all. A first playthrough on an easier setting will still let you collect the 52 automatic Lux Lunae records, but the conditional 31 stay hidden until you replay on Veteran or above and hit their triggers.

The Shadow 24 chain: Mission 18 unlocks Mission 28’s squadron
One entry breaks the “automatic” rule. The Lux Lunae 22nd Unit, flying Su-57 Felons in Mission 28 “A Thousand Points of Light” (Operation Locust Purge), only appears if you have already destroyed Shadow 24 back in Mission 18 “Moonlight and Shadows” (Operation Branching Path).
In Mission 18, Shadow 24 flies near the launch pad during the launch sequence. Downing it there both logs the F-15J ace “Curis” and permanently satisfies the prerequisite for the 22nd Unit later on. If you skip Shadow 24, the 22nd Unit will not deploy in Mission 28, so handle it during that earlier sortie.

Enemy ace spawn conditions by mission
The table below lists each conditional ace, the aircraft it flies, and the exact trigger that brings it into the mission. Entries marked with a question mark do not have a confirmed callsign or airframe yet.

Rewards and how to confirm a record counts
Every named ace you shoot down adds its entry to the Assault Records list and unlocks a special paint scheme for that ace’s aircraft type, ready to equip in campaign mode. The automatic Lux Lunae records fill in as you meet those units, so the real work is chasing the 31 conditional aces on Veteran or higher.
Collecting the complete set of Assault Records earns the gold trophy A Record of Rivalry. When your record log shows all 83 entries filled and the new skins are selectable in the aircraft customization menu, you know the collection is finished.
