Wuthering Waves calls its playable characters Resonators, and the roster keeps growing with each version. As of Version 3.4, there are 50 playable Resonators, split across six elements and five weapon types. If you count Rover’s three separate elemental forms as distinct kits, that number rises to 53.
Quick answer: Every Resonator uses one of six elements (Glacio, Fusion, Electro, Aero, Spectro, Havoc) and one of five weapons (Broadblade, Sword, Pistols, Gauntlets, Rectifier). Limited five-stars come from limited Convene banners, standard five-stars can be chosen on the standard banner, and most four-stars drop from any banner.
Elements and weapons in Wuthering Waves
Each Resonator carries one element that decides the type of damage they deal and shapes their combat style. Building a team usually means pairing complementary elements and roles. The six elements are Glacio, Fusion, Electro, Aero, Spectro, and Havoc.
Weapons matter just as much. There are five types, and each character is locked to one. Broadblades and Swords cover most melee bruisers, Gauntlets suit close-range fighters, Pistols handle ranged damage, and Rectifiers are magical conduits often used by healers and support units.

Rover, the main character
Rover is the protagonist you control from the very start, and you choose between a male or female version. Rover is unusual because their element can change. You begin with Spectro, then unlock Havoc through the story, and an Aero form is also available. Rover wields a Sword and serves as a damage dealer in the Spectro and Havoc forms, while the Aero form takes on a healer role.
Glacio characters
Glacio Resonators deal ice-based damage and range from straightforward damage dealers to RNG-heavy supports.

Sanhua buffs basic attack damage as a sub-DPS, while Baizhi is a free healer who can revive allies after unlocking her fifth Sequence. Youhu is a quirky support whose kit generates random artifacts to heal allies and amplify coordinated attacks.

Lupa is a hybrid support and off-field follow-up DPS who builds a resource called Wolf Flame and provides team-wide buffs including damage reduction. Encore is a standard-banner main DPS whose big damage window comes during her Cosmos Rave ultimate. Chixia and Mortefi are the four-star options. Chixia is a beginner-friendly ranged DPS, while Mortefi is a sub-DPS who boosts heavy attack damage.

The four-star Aalto buffs Aero damage and taunts enemies, and Yangyang is a free early-game sub-DPS who restores energy with her Outro skill.

Verina is a standard-banner healer with a damage boost, and Zani is an Aero-adjacent Spectro main DPS using gauntlets. Phoebe rounds out the group as a sub-DPS with a damage boost.

The four-stars are Danjin, a self-damaging sword sub-DPS who heals through her kit, and Taoqi, a shielder who generates a Rocksteady Shield and buffs Resonance Skill damage.

Newest Version 3.4 Resonators
Version 3.4 added three new five-star characters, including two from a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration.
| Name | Element | Weapon | How to get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lucy | Spectro | Pistols | Limited collaboration banner |
| Rebecca | Electro | Pistols | Free copy via Instant Flashlight, banner also available |
| Lucilla | Glacio | Rectifier | Limited Convene banner |
Lucy and Rebecca arrived as part of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration and work as a defacto pair. Every player receives a free copy of Rebecca, with her banner still running for anyone who wants extra copies. Lucilla was the only non-collaboration character released in Version 3.4.

Upcoming characters
Six upcoming Resonators are slated to release starting from Version 3.5 and beyond, all hailing from regions in Huanglong. These characters are Yangyang: Xuanling, Suisui, Suoming, Jingran, Qingxiao, and Hsin. The next banner is set to feature Cartethyia on June 18.

How to get characters
The main way to obtain Resonators, especially five-stars, is to summon them through Convene banners using the premium currency Astrite. Thanks to the pity system, you are guaranteed a five-star Resonator after 80 pulls on a character Convene banner. When you start the game, Rover, Yangyang, and Chixia join your party for free, and Yuanwu becomes available after clearing a set number of floors in the Tower of Adversity.
Certain four-star Resonators can also be earned for free through events. For example, you can claim a free Sanhua during the login event called Gifts of Thawing Frost. Standard five-stars like Jianxin, Calcharo, Encore, Lingyang, and Verina can be selected on the standard banner, while limited five-stars rotate through the limited banners.
