Although Apple hasn’t given a direct option for purchasing a SIM-free iPhone XR, if you Pay in full with a one-time payment, you’ll get an unlocked iPhone XR with SIM card for the chosen carrier. The device will be ready to use with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
If you choose carrier financing from AT&T or Verizon though, your iPhone XR will be locked to your carrier.
How to Buy iPhone XR Unlocked (SIM-free)
- Go to the iPhone XR buying page on Apple Store (link →).
- Select your carrier.
- Then select the iPhone XR color and variant you want to purchase.
- On the payments option page, select One-time payment.
- You’ll see the “Unlocked iPhone with [carrier name] SIM” text mentioned on the next page. This means that your iPhone XR is unlocked and will ship with a SIM card of the selected carrier.
Note: Don’t choose carrier financing. If you choose carrier financing from AT&T or Verizon to pay for the full amount, your iPhone will be locked to your carrier.
