Companions in Fisch are pets that follow you while fishing and trigger passive abilities tied to progress bars, bait, luck, and fish capture. Only one can be equipped at a time through the Companion Satchel, and each one levels up to a maximum of 10 as its passive activates during play. Picking the right pet shapes how fast you grind, how often you land rare fish, and how much value each cast returns.

Fisch companions tier list (S to D)
Rankings reflect Level 1 passive performance. Buff values, proc timings, and durations scale upward as a companion levels, so weaker pets become more usable past Level 5, but the relative order generally holds.
| Tier | Companion | Core passive effect |
|---|---|---|
| S | Little Meg | Bites for progress; transforms into Ancient Megalodon for 1 minute, scaring off low-rarity fish |
| S | Tropical Toucan | Auto-collects bait; grants +75% Luck and +25% size while scouting |
| S | Garry Gator | Small Bite (+5% progress) frequently; rare Big Bite (+50% progress) |
| S | Floopy Salmon | 25% chance every 3 seconds for +20% progress speed and +20% resilience |
| A | Nico Cat | 10% chance to fetch a fish with the Nico's Nyantics mutation |
| A | Beak Bill | Swoops for a random fish (held 30 seconds); can return bait, boosted in rain |
| A | Penguin Pal | 10% chance every 3 seconds to dive, freeze, and catch a fish |
| B | Plunderbeak | Tracks treasure chests; 20% chance to call "gold" for a golden mutation catch |
| C | Mutated Sharky | 10% chance per 60 seconds to spawn a whirlpool to the Depths |
| D | Silly Seal | Feed it fish to raise hunger and unlock progress-bar bites |

S-tier companions
Little Meg sits at the top because its passive does two things at once. It bites the progress bar steadily, and on a roll, it triggers Ancient Power, turning into an Ancient Megalodon for one minute. During that window, low-rarity fish are pushed out of the encounter pool, and the bites become more reliable, which translates directly into faster rare catches. The downside is a 4% chance every 50 seconds that it flings you into the water, briefly interrupting whatever you were doing.
Tropical Toucan is the luck and trophy pick. While you fish, it scouts the water and grants a temporary +75% Luck and +25% size buff, and between procs it flies around the island gathering bait from trees and the ground. The buff is temporary and only fires while you're actively fishing, so it rewards continuous play more than idle sessions.
Garry Gator is built for high-rarity fights. The Small Bite triggers often for a steady +5% progress, and the rare Big Bite drops a +50% chunk that can decide a difficult reel. The Big Bite is RNG-dependent, so it pairs best with a strong rod rather than acting as your only progress source.
Floopy Salmon rolls a 25% chance every three seconds to jump in and apply +20% progress speed and +20% resilience. That's one of the most consistent buff cycles among all 10 companions, which makes it strong for money grinding. The catch is that it's one of the harder companions to obtain.

A-tier companions
Nico Cat has a 10% chance to leap into the water and return with a random fish carrying the Nico's Nyantics mutation, which has a high value multiplier. It's pure passive income with no input required, but the proc rate keeps it out of S-tier.
Beak Bill swoops down for a random fish and holds it for 30 seconds before you can claim it, and it has a chance to return your most recently used bait. All of those effects are significantly boosted in rainy weather, which is also when the pet itself spawns to be unlocked. Outside of rain, its output drops noticeably.
Penguin Pal has a 10% chance every three seconds to dive, freeze, and catch a fish for you. Freezing the catch is powerful, but the per-tick chance is low compared to Floopy Salmon's same cadence at 25%.

B, C, and D-tier companions
Plunderbeak flies toward nearby treasure chests and has a 20% chance to shout "gold," letting you reel in a fish with the golden mutation. The chest tracking is genuinely useful for money runs, but the gold mutation's multiplier is modest, and the pet itself requires the Scurvy Rod, a completed Forsaken Shores Bestiary, and 10 opened chests to unlock.
Mutated Sharky has a 10% chance every 60 seconds to spawn a whirlpool that fast-travels you to the Depths or Vertigo. It's a unique mechanic, but the long cooldown and low proc chance keep it situational at best.
Silly Seal only contributes after you feed it enough fish to raise its hunger, and it has a 10% chance to eat your catch instead of helping. It's the easiest companion to acquire and reasonable for new players, but its impact on actual fishing is small and slow.

How companion leveling works
Every companion in Fisch caps at Level 10. XP is earned each time the equipped companion's passive ability successfully activates, so the fastest way to level any pet is to keep it equipped during heavy fishing sessions in zones where its passive can trigger often. Leveling improves buff values, proc timings, and effect durations rather than changing the passive itself.
You can only equip one companion at a time using the Companion Satchel found in your inventory. Multi-slot equipping isn't currently available, so swap based on the activity, like Tropical Toucan for trophy hunting, Floopy Salmon or Garry Gator for grinding, and Beak Bill during rain.
Best companion by activity
| Goal | Recommended companion | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Overall best | Little Meg | Removes low-rarity fish and stacks consistent progress |
| Trophy / size hunting | Tropical Toucan | +75% Luck and +25% size buff while fishing |
| Money grinding | Floopy Salmon | Frequent +20% progress and resilience procs |
| High-rarity reels | Garry Gator | Big Bite delivers +50% progress on hard fish |
| Passive fish income | Nico Cat | Free fish with a high-multiplier mutation |
| Rainy weather sessions | Beak Bill | Boosted swoops and bait returns in rain |
| Treasure runs | Plunderbeak | Locates chests and procs golden mutation |
| Fast travel to Depths | Mutated Sharky | Whirlpool teleport mechanic |
If you're starting fresh, Silly Seal is the easiest pickup to get familiar with the system, and Beak Bill is a low-effort upgrade once you spot a pelican on a dock during rain. From there, work toward Little Meg or Tropical Toucan as your main, since both clearly outperform the rest in day-to-day fishing.
