Instagram recently introduced an update to the app that lets you edit your DMs. So, if you've ever been embarrassed by typos and reached for the 'Unsend' button on the app, you no longer have to do that. You can edit any direct messages you've sent on the app within 15 minutes of sending them.
It's simple to edit your messages on Instagram, but make sure your app is updated to the latest version before proceeding.
- Now, open the Instagram app on your iOS or Android device.
- From the Home page, tap the 'Messenger' or 'Paper Plane' icon in the top-right corner to access your DMs or swipe left.
- Go to the conversation with the message you want to edit; it can be a group chat or personal chat.
- Tap and hold the message that's the source of all your woes.
- Select 'Edit' from the pop-up menu.
- The interface for editing the message will appear. Make your edits and tap the 'Send' icon. If you decide against editing the message, tap the 'X' icon instead.
- The message that you edit will have the label 'Edited' atop it, and the other person in the chat will be able to see that you have edited the message. They won't be able to see the original message, though.
However, if you were hoping that all this editing would go unnoticed, you're out of luck there. The only alternative is unending the message (Instagram keeps that hush!) and sending it again.
That's it. Editing a message on Instagram is straightforward. So, if you're hitting yourself over the head for wording something the wrong way or that horrible typo, cut yourself some slack. Instagram's got your back; simply edit the message and forget about it.
