Basketball is one of the most engaging side activities in Gakuran, and it is a genuine skill-based minigame rather than a simple button press. Success comes down to timing your shots, handling the ball to create space, and defending your opponent. This guide covers every control and mechanic so you can start winning pickup games and full matches on the Nishikata court.

Shooting and the shot meter
Shooting is all about timing. To take a shot, hold F to begin your shooting motion, watch the shot meter fill, and release F to shoot. Where you release on the meter determines the quality of your shot.
Shot meter zones
- Bright green (perfect release): guaranteed to score if the shot is not blocked. This is the ideal release point.
- Lime green (slightly late): a high chance of scoring and still a well-timed shot.
- Orange (late): a lower chance of scoring, but it can still go in depending on the situation.
- Red (very early / mistimed): a guaranteed miss, caused by releasing too early or outside the scoring zones.
Aim for bright green every time. Lime green is a reliable backup, but red is an automatic miss, so never rush your release.

Add to Google Preferences →Defensive pressure matters
Timing is not the only factor in whether a shot goes in. When a defender is actively guarding you, their positioning and pressure reduce your chance of scoring. As a general rule, open shots are easiest, lightly contested shots are harder, and heavily contested shots are the toughest of all. Strong defensive pressure can knock down even an otherwise good release, which is why creating space before you shoot is just as important as timing the shot itself.
Ball handling & dribble controls
You have several dribble moves for creating separation and getting past defenders. Combining them is how you break down a defense and open up clean looks at the basket.
- X — Dribble
- Z + X — Dribble
- C + X — Alternate dribble
- Backspace — Drop the ball
Playing defense
To defend, hold the right mouse button (RMB) to enter a defensive stance. From there you can actively guard the ball handler, contest shots, cut off driving lanes, and apply pressure. The closer and more effectively you defend, the harder you make your opponent shot, so good defense is a genuine way to win games, not just an afterthought.
Winning multiplayer matches
Basketball supports multiplayer games with several players on the court at once. Winning takes a mix of good shooting, effective dribbling, defensive awareness, teamwork, and smart positioning. Whether you are draining perfect green releases, breaking down defenders with dribble combos, or shutting opponents down on defense, it is a competitive, skill-based mode where your performance decides the result. Practice your release timing first, then layer in dribbling and defense to round out your game.
