The auto-complete feature in Google Chrome is a time saver. Whenever you start typing a web address, it shows suggestions from your browsing history based on what you type in the address bar.
Imagine you have mistyped a URL and it keeps coming in the auto-complete suggestions. It might irk you when you are in a hurry. Deleting them is the only way to stop those suggestions. Let us see how we can remove a web address/URL from Chrome suggestions in the ‘Address Bar’.
Delete a Website/URL
Open Google Chrome and type a few letters of the website you want to delete from the suggestions. You will see the URL suggestions. At the end of the suggested URL, you will see an ‘x’ mark, as seen in the image below. Click on it. The URL will now disappear from the suggestions.
Alternatively, when you see the suggestions, highlight the suggested URL you want to delete with arrow keys on your keyboard and press SHIFT + DELETE
keys.
Clear Browsing History
By clearing your browsing history on Chrome, you (can) remove every URL in the Chrome autofill and suggestions.
To clear browsing history on Chrome, click on the three-dot button in the toolbar, select ‘History’ and click on ‘History’, as seen in the image below. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + H
to open the History page.
From the History page, click on ‘Clear browsing data’ from the left side bar.
In the dialog box that will open, select the time range, check the button beside ‘Browsing history’ and click on the ‘Clear data’ button.
Removing Files Manually
If for any reason, the above methods do not work, copy/paste the below path in the ‘Windows Explorer’ address bar and press enter
.
In the place of {username}
in the path, type your username on your PC.
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
You will now see a lot of folders and files in the folder. Find ‘History’ and ‘Web Data’ files and delete them.
