There is no introduction needed for Pop-Ups, these pesky little buggers are not liked by anyone, and fortunately, Google Chrome does a pretty good job at keeping them away from your browsing experience.
However, if you are noticing a dramatic increase in the number of Pop-Ups you usually encounter when surfing the net, it is time to check all the Pop-Ups related settings on Chrome and make sure they are in line with blocking them.
Since you could be using your favorite browser from multiple devices, we are going to cover all of the devices in the guide for your ease of convenience.
Check and Change your Pop-Ups Setting from Android Device
The blocking of pop-ups is turned on by default in Chrome. However, there can be a possible scenario where this is turned off and resulting in more pop-ups appearing on websites you visit. Hence, checking the settings for it is your best bet.
First, open the Chrome browser either from the home screen or from the app library of your device.
Next, tap on the kebab menu (three vertical dots) present on the top right corner of the screen of your device.
Now, from the overflow menu, tap on the ‘Settings’ option to proceed.
Next, scroll down on the page and under the ‘Advanced’ section, locate the ‘Site Settings’ option and tap on it to continue.
Then, on the ‘Site settings’ screen, locate and tap on the ‘Pop-ups and redirects’ option.
Finally, on the next screen, make sure the toggle switch following the ‘Pop-ups and redirects’ option is in the ‘Off’ position. If it is not, tap on it to bring it to the ‘Off’ position.
Some Ads on websites also present themselves as pop-ups, and if ads are enabled on your Chrome browser, it may also increase the number of pop-ups you face.
Hence to block ads as well, head back to the ‘Site settings’ screen. Then, locate and click on the ‘Ads’ tile present on the screen.
Now, make sure the toggle switch following the ‘Ads’ field is in the ‘Off’ position. In case it is not, tap on it to bring it to the ‘Off’ position.
That’s it you shall now see fewer pop-ups when you are browsing the internet.
Disable Pop-Ups in Chrome from Desktop
While surfing on the internet may be fun on the mobile, but they definitely cannot replace the good’ol desktops; and if you love to wander over the internet using the Desktop, this method might be more preferable to you.
First, open the Chrome browser either from the desktop shortcut, pinned shortcut on taskbar, pinned apps on the Start Menu, or by searching for it.
Then, from the Chrome window, click on the kebab menu (three vertical dots) present on the top right corner of your screen and click then click to select the ‘Settings option from the overflow menu.
On the settings screen, click on the ‘Privacy & security’ tab present on the left sidebar to proceed.
Next, on the ‘Privacy & security’ screen scroll down the page to locate the ‘Site settings’ tile and click on it to continue.
After that, scroll down till you locate the ‘Content’ section and click on the ‘Pop-ups and redirects’ tile.
Finally, on the ‘Pop-ups & redirects’ screen, under the ‘Default behaviour’ section, click on the radio button preceding the ‘Don’t allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects’ option if not already selected.
In order to make sure that there is no kind of pop-ups allowed, scroll down and locate the ‘Allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects’ section. If there are any unwanted websites present, click on the kebab menu (three vertical dots) present on the right side of the individual website listing. This will reveal an overflow menu.
Next, click on the ‘Remove’ option to remove the website from the list. Repeat this process if there is more than one website on the list.
The next step is to check if by chance ads have been enabled on Chrome as they also might present themselves in the pop-ups form.
To do so, head back to the ‘Site settings’ page and click on the chevron present right beside the ‘Additional content settings’ option. This will reveal a list of options on the screen.
After that, locate and click on the ‘Ads’ tile present in the list to continue.
Then, click on the radio button preceding the “Block ads on sites that show intrusive or misleading ads” option if not already selected to disable all the ads.
Turn Off Pop-Ups in Chrome from iPhone
The settings to disable Pop-Ups in Chrome from iPhone is a tad bit different from its Android counterpart. However, it is equally easy, quick, and simple to access the setting on your mobile device.
First, open the Chrome app either from the home screen or the app library of your iPhone.
Next, tap on the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) present at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Then, tap on the ‘Settings’ option present in the overflow menu.
Next, from the Settings screen, scroll down till you locate the ‘Content Settings’ option and tap on it to proceed.
On the ‘Content Settings’ screen, tap on the ‘Block Pop-Ups’ option.
Finally, make sure the toggle switch following the ‘Block Pop-ups’ option is in the ‘On’ position. In case it is not, tap on it to bring it to the ‘On’ position.
