Your activity status on Instagram shows people when you are online or when you were last active on the app. You can turn it off should you choose to do that, and there will be no indication whatsoever on Instagram whenever you use the app. However, it's a two-way street; you also won't be able to see the activity status of anyone else in the app.

Usually, the process is straightforward; however, Instagram seems to have buried the setting deep under the 'Messages and story replies' section, making it difficult for people to find it.

If you have also been trying to find the setting to turn off the activity status, follow the guide below, and you will be done before you know it.

Turn Off the Active Status from the Mobile App

First, launch Instagram from Home Screen, App Library, or by searching for it.

After that, tap on your profile icon in the bottom right corner.

Next, tap on the 'hamburger' icon in the top right corner to proceed. This will bring an overlay menu to your screen.

Afterward, tap on the 'Settings and privacy' tile to continue.

Now, locate and tap the 'Messages and story replies' tile to proceed.

Then, tap on the 'Show activity status' tile.

Finally, tap on the 'Show Activity Status' toggle to switch it off.

Turn Off the Active Status from Browser

Finding the setting from the browser is relatively easier than the app and involves fewer steps. First, head to www.instagram.com using your preferred browser and sign in to your user account.

After that, click on 'More' in the bottom right corner. Then, click on the 'Settings' tile from the overflow menu.

Click 'How others can interact with you' on the next page to continue.

Finally, click on the 'Show Activity Status' checkbox to uncheck it. That's it. The settings will be applied immediately.

If you don't want those pesky people who message you the minute they see you online, turn off your activity status using the guide above and scroll through reels in peace.
