Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation 1, carrying National Pokédex number 0150. It was created through gene splicing using Mew’s DNA, which is why the two share nearly identical genetic codes despite their very different size and temperament. Mewtwo cannot evolve in the normal sense, but it does have two Mega Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y.
Quick answer: Mewtwo is a single-stage Psychic-type Legendary with a base stat total of 680, weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves. In most games it is a one-time catch found in a hidden cave such as Cerulean Cave or the Unknown Dungeon.

Mewtwo type weaknesses and resistances
As a pure Psychic type, Mewtwo has a short but exploitable list of weaknesses. It takes extra damage from Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves, while resisting Psychic and Fighting attacks. It has no type immunities, and every other type deals normal damage.
| Effectiveness | Types |
|---|---|
| Weak to | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| Resistant to | Psychic, Fighting |
| Immune to | None |
| Normal damage | Ground, Flying, Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire, Ice, Fairy, Dragon, Water, Normal, Electric, Grass |

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y
Mewtwo gained two Mega Evolutions in Generation 6. They are activated in battle while Mewtwo holds the matching Mega Stone, Mewtwonite X or Mewtwonite Y. Each form changes Mewtwo’s typing, ability, and stat spread in a different direction.
Mega Mewtwo X becomes a Psychic/Fighting type with the Steadfast ability and a huge Attack stat, turning it into a physical powerhouse. Mega Mewtwo Y stays pure Psychic, gains Insomnia, and pushes its Special Attack even higher while shedding weight. Both reach a base stat total of 780.
| Stat | Mega X | Mega Y |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Psychic / Fighting | Psychic |
| Ability | Steadfast | Insomnia |
| HP | 106 | 106 |
| Attack | 190 | 150 |
| Defense | 100 | 70 |
| Sp. Atk | 154 | 194 |
| Sp. Def | 100 | 120 |
| Speed | 130 | 140 |
| Total | 780 | 780 |
Note: Mega Mewtwo X picks up Flying, Ghost, and Fairy as weaknesses because of its added Fighting typing, while Mega Mewtwo Y keeps the standard Psychic weaknesses to Bug, Ghost, and Dark.

How to get Mewtwo in Pokopia
Mewtwo works differently in Pokopia, since you cannot draw it in with a habitat even though you meet it during the main story. You need to travel to Sky Dream Island and ask Mewtwo to return with you. Reaching that island requires a Dragonite Doll, and you may have to visit more than once before Mewtwo appears.
Mewtwo moves learned by level up
Mewtwo’s level-up moves lean heavily into Psychic-type damage, capped off by its signature move Psystrike. The pools differ slightly between recent titles, so both Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A are listed below.
| Level | Move (Scarlet/Violet) | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Life Dew | Water |
| 1 | Disable | Normal |
| 1 | Confusion | Psychic |

| 64 | Mist | Ice |

| 80 | Recover | Normal |
| 88 | Future Sight | Psychic |
| Level | Move (Legends: Z-A) | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Confusion | Psychic |
| 1 | Swift | Normal |
| 12 | Psybeam | Psychic |
| 16 | Psycho Cut | Psychic |
| 24 | Safeguard | Normal |

| 48 | Psychic | Psychic |
| 64 | Mist | Ice |

On top of these, Mewtwo learns a wide range of TM moves that cover Fire, Ice, Electric, Fighting, Ground, Ghost, and Dark damage, including Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Earthquake, Shadow Ball, and Nasty Plot. That broad coverage is a big part of why Mewtwo can threaten so many different opponents.
Mewtwo in Pokémon GO
In Pokémon GO, Mewtwo is a Legendary raid Pokémon with a maximum CP of 4,724. Its best moveset is the Fast Attack Confusion paired with the Charged Attack Psystrike, which together produce its highest damage output and make it a top pick in the GO Battle League. Because it is Psychic type, it remains weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark attacks.
When raiding Mewtwo, build a lineup around Bug, Ghost, or Dark attackers such as Pinsir, Scizor, Giratina, Chandelure, Tyranitar, Weavile, Darkrai, or Yveltal, since matching the attack type adds a 20% same-type damage bonus. Defeat it quickly to earn more Premier Balls, then use Golden Razz Berries and aim for Excellent Curveball Throws during its movement pauses to improve your catch odds.
Between its high Special Attack, fast Speed, deep coverage movepool, and two Mega forms, Mewtwo remains one of the most flexible Legendary Pokémon you can build around, whether you are catching the single in-game encounter or powering one up for raids and battles.
