Silicobra in Pokémon GO — Where to Find It and How to Evolve Sandaconda

Silicobra, the Sand Snake Pokémon from the Galar region, made its Pokémon GO debut on April 14, 2026, as part of the Sustainability Week 2026 event. It's a pure Ground-type that evolves into Sandaconda, and while it's technically available in wild spawns globally during the event, actually finding one is another story entirely. Silicobra spawns far more frequently in desert-like biomes, making it one of the trickiest new releases to track down if you don't live near arid terrain.

Quick answer: Silicobra spawns in the wild during Sustainability Week 2026 (April 14–20), with significantly higher rates in desert and arid biomes. It costs 50 Silicobra Candy to evolve into Sandaconda. Shiny Silicobra is not available.

Silicobra Wild Spawns and the Desert Biome Problem

Silicobra is listed as a general event spawn alongside Seedot, Castform, Wiglett, and Toedscool. The official event announcement states that Toedscool, Wiglett, and Silicobra "will appear more frequently in their natural biomes." For Silicobra, that means desert-like areas.

The wording is somewhat ambiguous. Silicobra can technically appear outside of desert biomes during the event, but early player reports confirm that encounters outside arid zones are extremely rare. Players have reported occasional spawns in grasslands biomes, so it isn't completely locked to deserts, but you shouldn't count on stumbling across one in a temperate forest or urban area.

🌵
If you've struggled to find Wiglett (beach biome) or Toedscool (forest biome) in the past, expect a similar experience with Silicobra. Biome-dependent spawns in Pokémon GO are notoriously inconsistent and poorly communicated.

Pokémon GO's biome system draws from OpenStreetMap (OSM) data, but the game doesn't tell you which biome you're standing in. The catch screen background can offer a rough hint — a sandy or mountainous backdrop may indicate an arid zone — but this isn't always reliable. Some players have found that areas tagged as natural=desert or natural=sand in OSM correlate with Silicobra spawns, though the exact mapping logic remains unconfirmed.

How to Maximize Your Chances of Catching Silicobra

The Sustainability Week event runs through Monday, April 20, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time. After that, Silicobra will likely shift to a much rarer biome-dependent spawn — similar to how Wiglett became scarce outside beach areas after its debut event. Catching at least one during the event window is strongly recommended.

Step 1: Head to the most arid, sandy, or desert-like area accessible to you. Beaches, sandy parks, and areas in the southwestern United States, the Middle East, and outback Australia are strong candidates. Even a golf course sand trap or a sandy playground may be tagged in OSM in a way that triggers spawns.

Step 2: Play during Sunny weather. Silicobra is a Ground-type, and Sunny weather boosts Ground-type spawns. Weather-boosted Silicobra also appear with higher CP and better minimum IV floors, plus you earn 25 percent more Stardust per catch.

Step 3: Stack spawn-boosting items. Activate an Incense while walking near a PokéStop with a Lure Module in a desert biome during sunny conditions. This combination significantly increases the number of wild encounters you'll generate.

Step 4: Use Pinap Berries on every Silicobra you encounter. You need 50 Candy to evolve, and spawns may be scarce. Doubling your catch candy with each Pinap Berry cuts the grind roughly in half.

Sandaconda keeps the pure Ground typing and has a defensive stat spread that makes it a potential option in Great League and Ultra League GO Battle League play. If you're planning to use it competitively, prioritize catching Silicobra with higher Defense and HP stats rather than pure Attack.

Beyond catching, you can earn Silicobra Candy passively by setting it as your Buddy Pokémon. This is especially useful after the event ends and wild encounters become scarce.

Earth Power is the standout charged move here, offering strong damage output with decent energy efficiency. Mud Shot generates energy faster than Mud-Slap, making it the better pick for PvP if you want to reach charged moves quickly.

Shiny Silicobra Is Not Available Yet

Silicobra's shiny form did not launch with its debut. This is standard practice — new Pokémon in GO typically receive their shiny variants during a later event, such as a Community Day or Safari Zone. When shiny Silicobra does eventually arrive, the visual difference is subtle: the brown coloring around the head shifts to grey, and the eyes become a dark yellow.

What Happens After Sustainability Week Ends

Once the event wraps up on April 20, Silicobra will almost certainly become a rare, biome-dependent spawn restricted primarily to desert and arid areas. This mirrors the pattern set by Wiglett (beach-locked) and Toedscool (forest-locked), both of which became difficult to find outside their respective biomes after their debut events.

⚠️
If you don't live near a desert biome, this event window is likely your best opportunity to catch Silicobra for a long time. Even one catch secures the Pokédex entry and lets you walk for Candy toward Sandaconda.

Players without access to desert terrain may eventually be able to obtain Silicobra through future events, eggs, or trading. Remote trading is an option if you have friends in arid regions willing to send one your way. For now, though, the Sustainability Week event is the most reliable path to adding the Sand Snake Pokémon to your collection.
