Romance in Sovereign Tower is a real, completable path, not a background flavor. The game even hands out an achievement called “Love Is All” for finishing a single romance, so love is a tracked objective inside the same daily loop that keeps your knights loyal. The catch is that the number driving it stays invisible, and several ruling choices can quietly shut routes before you notice.
Quick answer: Raise a character’s affinity by feeding them favourite meals and assigning quests they like, keep your ruling archetype aligned with their taste, and pursue only one romance at a time. Complete that romance to unlock “Love Is All.”
Who you can romance in Sovereign Tower
Your knights are the obvious targets, but romance reaches beyond the Round Table. Tower staff can have romantic moments too, and the standout option is the Lady of the Tower, the sentient statue the game openly advertises. She carries her own achievement, “A True Love Kiss,” so courting a talking statue is a supported route rather than a joke.
Not everyone is available. Arlin, your advisor, is a married man and a father, so he is off the table entirely. Feeding someone their favourite dish also does not confirm they can be romanced. Every knight has liked meals, and those only raise affinity. Keep the two ideas separate.

Romance is open to a Sovereign of any identity. There is no gender selection because the Sovereign’s identity is deliberately never revealed, letting you project yourself onto the role. The masculine wording other characters use, like “sire” and “his majesty,” is a localisation constraint and an assumption they make, not a fixed fact about you. Same-sex romances are fully possible, and the Sovereign can pursue characters of all gender identities.
You can buy the game on the Sovereign Tower Steam page for Windows.

Add to Google Preferences →How affinity drives romance
Romance sits downstream of affinity, the same value that decides whether a knight stays in your court. Every knight starts at 0 on a scale that runs from -10 to +10. Affinity gates the free-time conversations where most of a knight’s story lives, so building those bonds and stopping resignations are the same job.
Two things move affinity: giving a knight food they like and sending them on quests they enjoy. Quest performance itself does not, though quest outcomes do feed the meter indirectly. A big success lifts the whole party, while a major failure drags it down. If affinity falls to -7, the knight resigns.
| Action | Affinity change |
|---|---|
| Favourite meal fed | +1.5 |
| Liked quest type or condition | +1.33 |
| Disliked quest type or condition | -0.75 |
| Resignation threshold | -7 |
Preferences stack, which makes the right dispatch powerful. A quest that matches two of a knight’s liked conditions is worth close to +4, roughly a fifth of the entire positive-to-negative range from one assignment. Feeding a favourite meal and pairing it with liked quests is the fastest reliable way to climb.
How your ruling style closes routes
Your archetype is the quiet route-killer. Knights care about how you rule, and committing hard to one style earns favor with some while pushing others away. Because archetypes also level up over time, that damage compounds across a playthrough.
| Knight | Ruling style preference |
|---|---|
| Angelica | Likes Kind |
| Rufus | Likes Kind |
| Dulahan | Dislikes Kind |
| Gwendan | Wants Wise |
| Gideon | Wants Audacious |
| Ursula | Wants Audacious |
Note: Angelica specifically likes Kind rulers and dislikes Tyrannic ones, which is a clean example of how a single archetype swing can help one route and sink another at the same time.
The multi-romance penalty
Spreading affection is punished, and heavily. Some characters apply a penalty when they learn you are courting more than one person. Because affinity only reaches +10, a -20 hit is double the entire positive range, effectively deleting the route.
| Character | Penalty |
|---|---|
| Ursula | -20 |
| Gideon | -18 |
| Ligia | -7 |
| Oliver | -7 |
This is why single-target romancing is the safe plan. The affinity meter secretly runs from -20 to +10 behind the scenes precisely to accommodate these penalties, so the practical floor is far lower than the -10 you would expect.
Why a romance stalls or gets “knight-zoned”
There is no relationship strength bar. Affinity runs silently, some scenes are randomised or locked behind barriers you cannot see, and you get no on-screen readout. That makes progress hard to gauge, and it is easy to assume a romance is broken when it simply has not hit a threshold yet.
The game does deliver a verdict when a romance genuinely fails. Trying to romance Rufus can end in a “knight-zoned” outcome, with the game describing him as full of distrust regarding love. That reads as a real end-state, not a paused meter.

Flirting and completing a romance are also two different things. Flirt options can appear even when you never started anything, while affinity still gates the scenes that actually advance the relationship. Availability is generous; completion is not. Seeing a flirt line does not mean the route is progressing.
Constraints that limit your romance run
The court has hard limits that shape who you can realistically pursue. There are 24 knights but only 10 seats at most, you cannot dismiss anyone once invited, and dead knights stay dead. The in-game clock ends the run whether or not your romance is finished, so time is a resource.
The demon in the crypts is your only recovery tool. Its rewind lets you go back with everything you have learned, and it keeps your archetype progress intact. Use it to undo a resignation, a death, or an archetype choice that closed a route you wanted.
Angelica as a worked example
Angelica joins on day one, which makes her the clearest romance to learn on. She likes Kind rulers, dislikes Tyrannic ones, and warms up quickly when you feed her preferred food and hand her quests that match her strengths.
| Preference | Details |
|---|---|
| Liked quests | Diplomacy, Scouting |
| Disliked quests | Assassination, Ghosts |
| Favourite meals | Préfou, Crêpe |
| Traits | Kind Hearted, Naive, Fortunate, Animal Lover |
Her affinity scenes also include explicit romance choices. Early on, letting her keep a smuggled kitchen kitten and playing along with a “Meow” reply nudges the moment flirtatious and pushes Audacious. Later heart events add lines like teasing that you hope she will one day speak of you as fondly as the cat, each marked as a romance option. Picking those lines, rather than the neutral responses, is how you steer her arc toward romance instead of friendship.
Because the systems stay hidden, the safest approach is disciplined and single-minded. Pick one target, keep your archetype aligned with their taste, feed their favourite dishes, assign quests they like, avoid courting anyone else, and lean on the demon’s rewind when a choice or a death would otherwise end the route for good.
