Apple announced a lot of exciting features coming to their devices with the latest batch of OS updates. As expected, many of the newly announced features will be AI-powered, such as Apple's Genmoji feature coming to iPhones with iOS 18. This feature will let users create custom emojis by typing in prompts just as you can do with other image-generation AI tools.
Being able to create custom emojis means you can now create the perfect emoji that expresses your emotions in just the right manner. This means no more searching for the right emoji for a particular context, which can be a boon for those who rely a lot on these tiny icons when communicating. Here is everything you need to learn about Apple's new Genmoji feature coming with iOS 18.
What is Genmoji and how can you use it?
Genmoji or generative emoji uses generative AI to create emojis which users describe as text prompts and will be a feature of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 Sequoia.
To use this feature, you can type in a prompt in any app, like T-Rex riding a skateboard while wearing a tutu
or Smiley relaxing wearing cucumbers
and Genmoji will create your custom emoji for you. It will also give you multiple design options for each emoji, so you can easily pick the one you want.
What's more, you can use Genmoji to create emojis of your friends and family using their photos in your library.
Once you have created an emoji using the feature, you can use it as stickers, in messages, and even as Tapback reactions.
Genmoji provides users with new ways to express themselves in addition to the already existing emojis that are currently available on Apple devices. It is powered by AI and is a part of the recently announced Apple Intelligence framework. The feature allows users to use their personal context to create a multitude of emojis, which could propel AI-generated emojis to new heights, especially since the process of creating official emojis is quite a complicated process. Genmoji will be available on devices compatible with Apple Intelligence this fall.
