Beast of Reincarnation Mod Puts Akari and Zacian in Game Freak’s Soulslike

A community mod swaps Emma the Sealer for Akari and her dog Koo for the legendary Pokémon Zacian.

A community mod swaps Emma the Sealer for Akari and her dog Koo for the legendary Pokémon Zacian.

Game Freak’s post-apocalyptic soulslike, Beast of Reincarnation, launched only a couple of days ago, and the modding community has already given it a Pokémon makeover. The first cosmetic mod for the game trades the human protagonist and her canine companion for two familiar faces from the studio’s monster-catching side of the house.

Quick answer: Install ChitoseHaruhi’s mod from Nexus Mods to replace Emma the Sealer with Akari from Pokémon Legends: Arceus and her stray dog Koo with the Pokémon Sword & Shield legendary Zacian.

What the mod changes

This is a straight character swap rather than a full overhaul. It replaces the two on-screen characters with Pokémon models, so you play through the same game while looking like a Hisui trainer with a legendary at her side. Zacian stepping in for Koo fits neatly, since both are the four-legged partner that fights beside the main character.

The swapped models look surprisingly at home in combat, even if the stylized Pokémon designs sit a little oddly against the game’s more photorealistic, ruined environments. This is a visual change only, so the katana play, Koo’s Bloom Arts commands, and the parry system that feeds them all still work exactly as they do in the base game.

How to get the mod

The mod lives on the Beast of Reincarnation page at Nexus Mods, uploaded by ChitoseHaruhi. Head to the Files tab to grab the download.

Stability warning and reporting issues

The creator flags one important caveat up front. The mod has not been tested inside the game and was assembled from prior modding experience, so crashes or other problems are possible when you run it.

If you hit a crash or a glitch, the creator asks that you leave a note in the Nexus comments section or on Bilibili so it can be looked into. Back up your save before you try any untested mod, since a cosmetic swap that behaves unexpectedly is easier to recover from with a clean copy on hand.

Where the Pokémon crossover stands now

For the moment this is the only Pokémon mod available for Beast of Reincarnation, which makes sense given the game is only days old. There is clear room for the community to expand it, from swapping enemies and bosses to reskinning items, though anything more ambitious than a cosmetic tweak risks drawing attention from The Pokémon Company and Nintendo. For now, if you want to run through Game Freak’s soulslike as a trainer with a legendary companion, the Akari and Zacian swap is where to start.
