The Landlord Evolution in FC 26: Best Players to Upgrade

The requirements, every upgrade level, and the strongest center-back cards to sink 250,000 coins into.

The requirements, every upgrade level, and the strongest center-back cards to sink 250,000 coins into.

The Landlord Evolution turns one center-back in your Ultimate Team into a defensive monster, handing out big stat jumps and up to five PlayStyle+ across its five levels. It carries a 250,000-coin price tag, so the pick you make matters. The trick is choosing a card that already clears the entry rules and can chain into other Evolutions for even more value.

Quick answer: Spend the 250,000 coins on a CB (or a CB-capable CDM) rated 95 or lower with 10 or fewer PlayStyles and no more than four PlayStyle+. Van Dijk TOTY, Paolo Maldini Trophy Titans, and Isaak Toure FUTTIES are the standout fits. Play one qualifying match per level to bank every upgrade.

Entry requirements for The Landlord Evolution

A card only slots into this Evolution if it stays under all four caps below. If your player is above any of them, the game will not let you enter it into the slot.

RequirementLimit
OverallMax 95
PlayStyleMax 10
PlayStyle+Max 4
PositionCB

Because the Overall cap sits at 95, you get the most out of the boosts by picking a card that is a few points below the ceiling. That leaves room to feed the result into another Evolution afterward, which stacks far better returns than running The Landlord in isolation.

Best players to use

Any center-back that fits the caps works, but these cards give the cleanest payoff. Van Dijk TOTY and Maldini Trophy Titans bring elite defending bases, while Isaak Toure FUTTIES offers the height and physicality that this Evolution amplifies.

  • Isaak Toure FUTTIES
  • Maldini Trophy Titans
  • Van Dijk TOTY
  • Bouaddi Future Stars (requires a chain)
  • Van de Ven items
  • Saliba RTTF
  • Konate Glory Hunters
  • Romero Glory Hunters
  • O’Reilly TOTS Breakthrough
  • Schouten TOTS
  • Arrey-Mbi Showdown

You are not locked into pure center-backs. Plenty of FUTTIES CBs can also line up at CDM, so a card that covers both roles gives you extra flexibility once the upgrades land. The strongest results come from starting a chain, since players like Bouaddi need one to reach the position and rating you want.

Every upgrade level

The Evolution runs across five levels. Each one adds attribute boosts (with the capped value shown in brackets) plus new PlayStyles and PlayStyle+.

LevelAttribute boosts (cap)PlayStyles
1Overall +15 (96), Acceleration +15 (94), Crossing +30 (94), Short Passing +20 (95), Sprint Speed +15 (94)Bruiser+ (5)
2Jumping +30 (95), Long Passing +30 (95), Slide Tackle +25 (97), Stand Tackle +25 (97)Pinged Pass+ (5), Aerial Fortress (7)
3Heading Acc. +25 (96), Interceptions +25 (96), Def. Aware +25 (98), Skills +4Block+ (5), Intercept
4Agility +30 (90), Reactions +25 (94), Vision +30 (94), Composure +25 (93)Anticipate+ (5), Slide Tackle (7)
5Aggression +30 (95), Stamina +30 (97), Strength +30 (94), Weak Foot +4Relentless+ (5), Jockey (7)

By the end, you have a card packing five PlayStyle+ (Bruiser+, Pinged Pass+, Block+, Anticipate+, and Relentless+) alongside defensive PlayStyles like Aerial Fortress, Intercept, Slide Tackle, and Jockey. That is what makes the 250,000-coin cost land on a genuine endgame defender.

How to complete each level

Every level shares the same simple challenge, so progression comes down to playing matches with the card in your squad.

Add your chosen card to the Evolution slot and put it in your active starting eleven.
Play one match in Squad Battles on at least Semi-Pro difficulty, or in Rush, Rivals, Champions, or Live Events, with the EVO player on the pitch.
Repeat that single-match requirement for Levels 2 through 5. Each level unlocks its boosts once the match is logged.

You will know a level is done when the card’s rating and PlayStyles update in the Evolution screen and the next level’s challenge appears. If progress does not register, make sure the card was actually in your active lineup and that the match met the minimum difficulty.

Line up a card that sits comfortably under the caps, ideally one you can push through a second Evolution later, and The Landlord pays back its coins with a defender that dominates aerial duels and closes down passing lanes.
