A fresh update is live for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, and it does two big things at once. It hands players a new way to learn from replays, and it cleans up a long list of character bugs across the roster. For now, the patch is on PC and PS5, with the Nintendo Switch version still on the way.
Quick answer: The latest update adds Replay Takeover, extra PS5 performance work, localization fixes, expanded controller support on PS5, and re-enabled PC/PS5 crossplay, alongside bug fixes for the whole cast. Download it on PC or PS5 to get everything below; the Switch build has not shipped yet.
What the August update adds
This is the second major patch since launch, following the first post-launch update that shipped in late July. The headline feature is Replay Takeover, but the update also folds in platform-level improvements and a round of balance and bug fixes. Here is the short version before the details.
| Change | What it does |
|---|---|
| Replay Takeover | Pause any replay and jump in as one of the players |
| PS5 performance | Additional performance improvements on PlayStation 5 |
| Localization | Localization fixes applied |
| Crossplay | PC and PS5 crossplay re-enabled after brief downtime |
| Roster fixes | Hurtbox standardization plus per-character bug fixes |
Replay Takeover, explained
Replay Takeover lets you stop a saved replay at any moment and take control of one of the two fighters, so you can play out the situation yourself instead of just watching it. It is a practical training tool. If you keep losing the same exchange, you can pause right before it and try different options until you find one that works.
The feature works the same way as similar tools in other modern fighters, such as Street Fighter 6, and it has become a common request from players who want to drill specific matchups.
Controller support and crossplay status
On PS5, the update widens controller compatibility. That includes support for many additional controllers, PlayStation 4 controllers on PS5, and a range of third-party pads. This is useful for fighting game players who prefer arcade sticks, hitboxes, or older DualShock 4 controllers.
Crossplay between PC and PS5 was briefly taken offline for maintenance during the rollout and has now been switched back on. If your online matches were failing to connect across platforms right after the patch, that downtime was the cause and it should now be resolved.

Character balance and bug fixes (August 6 patch notes)
Two changes apply to the entire cast. Knockdown hurtboxes are now standardized so every character behaves the same way on knockdowns, and a looping bug during the Wind Summon abilities used by Aang and Kyoshi has been fixed. Sokka and Zaheer received the most targeted attention this time.
| Character | Fix |
|---|---|
| All | Standardized knockdown hurtboxes; fixed Wind Summon moves looping at unintended positions |
| Azula | Removed jump cancel into stand throw from Ignition Step (Run) (F+Flow) |
| Katara | Fixed Cascading Strike (QCF+ATK) canceling into EX Water Whip Stance (QCB+2ATK); fixed improper travel speeds on air Water Whip (j.QCB+ATK) and Frigid Snap (j.QCF+ATK) |
| Nightmare Korra | Removed unintended Hard Knockdown from Wildfire Splitter (QCB+B) |
| Sokka | Fixed Boomerang not scaling in combos (EX Boomerang keeps better scaling); fixed Boomerang staying active in cinematic supers when hit; fixed 10+ Sword Level altering opponent size on hit |
| Toph | Fixed camera behavior on Shifting Earth (B+Flow) near a Champ’s Ring wall in the camera corner |
| Zaheer | Fixed Critical Hit ground throw clashing with Ghazan’s boomerang; fixed Ming-Hua losing collision on whiffed throws; fixed restand with j.C during Ming-Hua’s OTG hit |
| Zuko | Fixed Combustion Boost (Upward) (j.Flow) carrying too much momentum |
Which platforms have the update
The patch is available to download now on PC and PS5. The Switch version, along with future content for that platform, has been confirmed as on the way but does not have a fixed release date yet.
You will know the update installed correctly when Replay Takeover appears as an option inside the replay controls and cross-platform matches connect again between PC and PS5. On PS5, plugging in a previously unsupported controller and seeing it register in-game confirms the expanded controller support is active.
Larger additions are still planned. The development team has committed to Ranked Mode, Lobbies, Spectator Mode, a Beginner’s Zone, more Casual Modes, new tutorials, and combo trials in future patches, with Tagah from Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender set to join the roster as a free character later in the year. For now, Replay Takeover, restored crossplay, and the roster-wide cleanup are the reasons to update on PC and PS5.
