Beast of Reincarnation: How to Beat the Nue Malefact and Male Purifier in The Great Wall Terraces

Poison gear, the Hunter's Sword, and parry timing to clear all four Chapter 3 boss encounters and their rewards.

Poison gear, the Hunter’s Sword, and parry timing to clear all four Chapter 3 boss encounters and their rewards.

The Great Wall Terraces is Chapter 3: The Vessel of Beast of Reincarnation, and it hands you the same boss four separate times. The Nue Malefact, the lightning-summoning beast from Emma’s flashback, keeps fleeing once you wear its health down, so you chase it across the mountainous region until a final duo fight against both the Nue and the Male Purifier. The whole run is built around one thing: poison.

Quick answer: Equip poison gear (the Hunter’s Sword plus Poison Bolts and Poison Fang), fight the Nue Malefact at Mountain Plaza Forefront, Great Forest Clearing Approach, and the Ruined Temple ruins, chasing it each time it runs, then finish it alongside the Male Purifier at Old Sagami Colony: Approach by parrying the Purifier’s sword swings. The Nue keeps its damage between fights, so it never resets to full health.

Poison loadout and the Hunter’s Sword

The Nue Malefact is highly vulnerable to poison, so build your entire setup around poison buildup and steady healing. Before the first fight, visit the Wandering Merchant near Mountain Plaza Forefront and pick up the two poison tools you will lean on for the whole chapter.

Start Emma with the Vampiric Blade+2 and Poison Bolts for the opening fight, then switch to the Hunter’s Sword once you have it. To get the sword, travel to the Great Forest Entrance camp, speak to the Mysterious Golem (the Storyteller), and choose “Listen to the story.” After the tale, the golem hands over the Hunter’s Sword, a poison blade that applies buildup with normal attacks. Upgrade it to at least +2 at a campfire before the second encounter, and keep pushing it to level 3 later.

On Koo’s side, run the Dokusou: Fang skill (with the Status Effect Amp mod) and Poison Fang to stack poison quickly, and equip a Skill Charm III (Poison 3) for the final fight. For survivability, Higanbana Seeds Lv.3 with the Perennial Bloom mod is the standout heal. Because that attack lands five hits, it can restore up to 15.5% of Emma’s HP in a single use.

Note: Emma has no invincibility frames during Blade Art animations or Helm Attacks. Enemies can interrupt and damage her mid-swing, so don’t commit to long attack strings when the Nue is winding up something big.

Nue Malefact moveset and how to answer each attack

The Nue reuses the same core attacks in every encounter, adding a stronger lightning move by the third fight. Learn the tempo of its claw combo in particular, since parrying the full string feeds Koo’s Flow Points for free.

AttackResponse
Five-hit paw swipe ending in a rear-back slamParry each swipe with a short pause between parries for the odd timing; dodge the slam if it is used on its own
Double tail swipe (two spins with a hop between)Parry both hits; retreat instead if your health is low
Tail root extensionParry, it is an easy read
Thorn projectiles from the mouth (track you)Run to either side to sidestep them
Rain of lightning bolts / tracking lightning strikesStay out of the electric patches, dodge on the red warning; you can also stay close and land perfect-dodge counters while it stands still
Red-glow leap into an unblockable stompDodge as it comes back down

Fight 1 – Mountain Plaza Forefront

Rest at the campsite, spend attributes and skill points, and confirm your poison loadout is active. When you approach the dying Nushi in its flower form, a cutscene plays, and the Nue Malefact drops in to attack.
Stay patient and look for openings instead of forcing pressure. Keep poison ticking with Poison Bolts, Koo’s Poison Fang, and the Dokusou skills while dodging the claw combo and lightning.
Once its health bar drops to roughly half, the Nue flees to the other side of the valley. Winning your damage share here awards the Ursine Memories, which unlock the Nushi Skill: Rampaging Asago, the Bloom Art: Asago Bow, and the Blade Art/finisher Asago 1-1.

Fights 2 and 3 – chasing the Nue north

Cross the large bridge to the eastern side of the river, deal with the Golems, and collect the Hunter’s Sword from the Great Forest Entrance on the way. Upgrade the sword to +2 and your Poison Bolts to +2 at a campfire before you re-engage.
Run into the Nue at the Great Forest Clearing Approach. It keeps the damage from the first fight, so it starts well below full. Use the trees as cover to block its heavy slam attacks and repeat the same poison-and-parry loop. When its health hits roughly the last quarter, it runs again. This round rewards the Erymanthian Memories, unlocking the Nushi Skill: Creeping Kiku, the Bloom Art Kiku Bloom Strike, and the Blade Art Kiku 1-1.
Head to the northern tip of the map, the Great Wall itself. Near the Ruined Temple Entrance, upgrade the Hunter’s Sword to level 3 and Dokusou: Fang to level 4. Climb the mass of wood and metal to the plateau, then approach the large statue to trigger the third fight.
The Nue adds a new lightning attack here but otherwise fights the same. Grind it down to its last sliver of health. Rather than dying, it flees one more time, and there is no reward for this round. Rest at the campsite by the statue before moving on.

Final fight – Nue Malefact and Male Purifier at Old Sagami Colony

The Nue has retreated to high ground, so ride the elevator at the base of the wall to the top, cross the destroyed bridge using Emma’s hair and lift abilities, and grapple the pipe to reach the far side. Grab the nearby items, check the Merchant (Acid Arrows are worth having), and rest at the campsite before the final encounter.

Equip the Skill Charm III (Poison 3) on Koo and set up your strongest poison and healing kit. At Old Sagami Colony: Approach, the Nue returns, and this time the Male Purifier joins it. Both enemies carry their own health bar, but neither has a second phase.
The two foes politely take turns, often hanging back while the other attacks. Use ranged bow attacks to safely drain the Nue’s remaining health while poison ticks it down, and pick your moments so you are never caught between both.
Turn to the Male Purifier and parry its sword swipes to build stagger, then punish. Clearing the fight automatically returns you to the Cleanse Walker and unlocks the Nushi Skill: Chimeric Flow, closing out Chapter 3. From there, you rest and move on toward Pilgrim’s Zone in Chapter 4.

You will know the chapter is done when the Male Purifier and the Nue both fall, the game cuts back to the Cleanse Walker automatically, and Chimeric Flow is added to your skill list. If the Nue keeps surviving your combos, the most common cause is poison falling off, so keep Koo’s Dokusou skills and Poison Fang cycling and lead with the Hunter’s Sword to reapply buildup on every trade.
