Title Update Y8S2.3 goes live on August 11, 2026, and it is the biggest content drop of the Into the Dark season so far. The headline addition is Broken Rain, the season’s second Incursion, but the update also hands out two new exotics, overhauls Dark Zone loot, and opens the door to the Stretch Goals track for players who have already maxed the Season Pass.
Quick answer: Y8S2.3 adds the Broken Rain Incursion (with the Steel & Sons ACR exotic rifle), the Into the Dark Climax Mission (with the Underboss exotic SMG), the Broken Rain Event Pass, the Into the Dark Stretch Goals track from August 18, Season Pass XP multiplier events, and a second phase of PvP balance changes plus new Dark Zone loot.

Broken Rain Incursion: Setup, Squad Size, and Prototype Gear
Hurricane Morgan is bearing down on rural Pennsylvania, and the Rikers have taken the Steel Creek Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant, one of the last working power stations on the East Coast. With the reservoir rising, your job is to punch through the Rikers’ defenses, kill the leaders holding the stronghold, and lock down the dam before the storm wrecks it.
Like the game’s other Incursions, Broken Rain is built for a full squad of four Agents. You can queue up with a team or use matchmaking.

One thing to prepare for before you go in: Prototype Gear is allowed, but its stats are fully normalized. Prototype Augments are switched off and Prototype stats drop to their minimum values. This is the same treatment already used in Paradise Lost, Operation Iron Horse, and Operation Dark Hours, so plan a build that does not lean on Prototype bonuses.
Broken Rain launch Arm Patches
Two time-limited Arm Patches mark the Incursion’s debut. Clearing it early is the only way to grab both.
| Completion window | Reward |
|---|---|
| First 24 hours | Golden Beaver Arm Patch and Silver Beaver Arm Patch |
| First 7 days | Silver Beaver Arm Patch |
The reward window starts one hour after the servers come back online following maintenance, to give everyone time to log in. The exact start and end times are confirmed on the official The Division account.
Steel & Sons ACR exotic rifle and how to farm it
The signature reward from Broken Rain is the Steel & Sons ACR, an exotic rifle you can only get from this Incursion. Its Confirm & Execute talent rewards accurate fire, stacking amplified damage on a target through body shots and paying it all out on a headshot.

| Confirm & Execute | Effect |
|---|---|
| Stack build-up | Body shots add 1 stack for 10s (PvE) or 6s (PvP), up to 3 stacks. Hitting a different enemy clears all stacks. |
| Per-stack damage | +4% Amplified Damage per stack (PvE), +3% (PvP). |
| Headshot payoff | Next headshot on a stacked enemy consumes all stacks for +11% Amplified Damage per stack (PvE), +9% (PvP). |
| Weakpoint bonus | Destroying a weakpoint makes the enemy take +10% Amplified Damage for 5s (PvE), +5% for 3s (PvP). |
| Weapon mods | Optics +15% Critical Hit Chance, Magazine +10 Rounds, Underbarrel +10% Weapon Handling, Muzzle +10% Reload Time. |
There are two paths to the drop. The final reward chest gives each of your characters one roll per week, resetting with the global weekly reset. Your clear time and personal performance do not change that chance. On top of that, the rifle can drop from bosses during repeat runs, as long as you are present when the boss dies. You can rerun the Incursion as many times as you like in a week, and the per-attempt drop chance stays the same.
Into the Dark Climax Mission and the Underboss exotic SMG
The Into the Dark Climax Mission also unlocks on August 11. Beat it on Master difficulty for the first time and the Underboss exotic SMG is a guaranteed reward. After that first clear, Underboss keeps a chance to drop on repeat runs, and higher difficulties improve the odds.

Underboss is built around team coordination. Its Gangland Hit talent marks an enemy when you shoot them, and multiple Agents running the SMG can stack marks on the same target for a bigger group payoff.
| Gangland Hit | Effect |
|---|---|
| Marking | Shooting an enemy applies one mark. You hold a single mark at a time, and shooting another enemy transfers it. |
| Stacking | Other Agents using this weapon can add marks to the same enemy, up to 4 total. |
| Damage (PvE) | +20% Amplified Damage to marked enemies, plus 5% for each extra mark beyond your own. |
| Damage (PvP) | +18% Amplified Damage to marked enemies, plus 2% for each extra mark beyond your own. |
| Weapon mod | Optics Slot +15% Crit Chance. |
PvP updates: Dark Zone loot, balance Phase II, and Shooting Range testing
Y8S2.3 pushes hard on PvP. The most immediate change is loot quality. All drops across the Toxic, Classic, and Balanced Dark Zones now roll at Heroic quality. In the Classic and Balanced zones, Elites and bosses also carry a 25% chance to drop an extra item from a special contaminated loot pool. As with any contaminated loot, you have to extract it before you can use it.
When that bonus item drops, its category is picked using the odds below, and every item inside a category has an equal chance.
| Category | Chance | Included items |
|---|---|---|
| High-Value Gear Sets | 40% | System Corruption, Yaahl Gear, Foundry Bulwark, Future Initiative, Aegis Gear, Breaking Point. |
| High-Value Legacy Weapons | 25% | The Apartment, Dark Winter, The Virginian, Black Friday, The Railsplitter, Orbit, TDI “Kard” Custom, Pinprick, Harmony, Rock n’ Roll, Good Times, Manic, Born Great, Relic. |
| High-Value Legacy Gear | 15% | Deathgrips, The Hallow Man, Claws Out, Ferocious Calm, Emperor’s Guard, Matador, The Gift, Door-Kicker’s Knock, Liquid Engineer, Everyday Carrier, The Courier. |
| Named Gear and Weapons | 10% | The Setup, The Sacrifice, Fox’s Prayer, Contractor’s Gloves, Picaro’s Holster, Punch Drunk, Nightwatcher, Zero Fs, White Death, Lefty, Mechanical Animal, Kingbreaker, Anarchist’s Cookbook, Firm Handshake, Closer, Henri, Stage Left, Everlasting Gaze. |
| Exotics | 6% | St. Elmo’s Engine, Scorpio, Memento, Catharsis, Coyote’s Mask, NinjaBike Messenger Backpack, NinjaBike Messenger Kneepads, Vile, Iron Lung, Mosquito, Pestilence, Waveform, Mantis, Tardigrade Armor System, Lady Death, Strega, Oxpecker, Agitator, Whiplash, Investor Mask, Harrier, BTSU Datagloves, The Sheriff. |
| High-Value Exotics | 4% | Eagle Bearer, The Ravenous. |
The second phase of Global PvP Balance targets Gear and Brand Set bonuses, Prototype Augments, and a handful of individual talents. Gear and Brand Set bonuses have been retuned to widen build options while pulling the strongest and weakest picks closer together. Prototype Augments now have their own dedicated PvP values, ahead of upcoming PvP content that will allow Prototype Gear, and those values trim the most extreme damage and survivability combinations without touching PvE performance. Talents that produced outsized PvP advantages have also been adjusted. The complete change list is published on the official balance breakdown.
There is also a useful quality-of-life tool. The Shooting Range now lets you preview how a build performs under PvP rules. Two new control panels toggle Normalization and Global PvP Balance on or off, and your stats update as you switch them.
- Normalization applies normalized PvP rules, including SHD Levels, Expertise, and Prototype Gear normalization. With it on, the damage shown against targets reflects your damage against another player.
- Global PvP Balance applies the PvP values used for gear, talents, and Prototype Augments.
- Turn Normalization off to go back to your regular damage against NPCs.
Into the Dark Stretch Goals and cache contents
The Into the Dark Stretch Goals track opens on August 18 and runs until the end of the season. Once you hit Tier 100 of the Season Pass, you keep progressing through this track for extra rewards. It uses two cache types. Standard Caches drop rewards on a chance, while Prestige Caches, which first appear at Tier 10 and are earned through the same progression, guarantee some rewards that are only a chance in Standard Caches and raise the odds of bonus drops.

Broken Rain Event Pass and Outfit Tokens
The Broken Rain Event Pass runs from August 11 to August 25 and leans into JTF-themed cosmetics. The free track hands out the JTF Controller and JTF Commando outfits, while the premium track adds the JTF Enforcer and JTF Responder outfits, two Exotic Caches, and one Outfit Token.

That Outfit Token is a brand-new currency. One token unlocks a full outfit from the Store, even if you already own some of its individual pieces. Look for the Outfit Token icon to see which outfits qualify. When an outfit supports more than one currency, you can pay with an Outfit Token, Premium Credits, or Textiles.
Season Pass XP multiplier events
Two stacking windows speed up Season Pass progression. Both apply to Priority Objectives, the Seasonal Journey, Weekly Projects, Manhunt Scouts, and general world activities.
| Event | Dates |
|---|---|
| Season Pass XP x5 | August 11 to August 18 |
| Season Pass XP x2 | August 18 to August 27 |
Bug fixes in Y8S2.3
- Fixed audio (gunshots, explosions, various FX) cutting out after long play sessions.
- Fixed Classified Assignment showing previously unlocked Collectibles as available rewards for other Agents.
- Fixed Agent Kelso following you in the Grand Washington Hotel mission without opening the door to Eleanor Swayer.
- Fixed an enemy spawning in an unreachable area in the Potomac Event Center mission.
- Fixed Global Directives changing the displayed XP for Raids and Incursions even though they do not apply there.
- Fixed entering Descent auto-claiming Event Pass rewards and keeping them out of your inventory.
- Fixed Breathless Pants clipping through vanity jackets.
With Broken Rain and the Climax Mission both live at launch, the fastest way to make the most of Y8S2.3 is to run the Incursion during the x5 XP window before it steps down on August 18, then let the Stretch Goals track catch your overflow progress once you clear Tier 100.
