Big Walk: All Seven Purple Gourd Puzzles and the True Ending

Where the endgame challenges live, how to solve each one with a partner, and the exact steps to trigger the true ending.

Where the endgame challenges live, how to solve each one with a partner, and the exact steps to trigger the true ending.

Finishing Big Walk once is not the end of it. Clearing the main story and the Black Sphere puzzle opens up seven Purple Gourd challenges, a set of co-op tests built around restricted communication and awkward physics. Beat all seven, install the gourds, and you unlock the game’s true ending along with the Big Game trophy.

Quick answer: Complete the first ending and the Black Sphere puzzle, ride the chairlift to the eastern ridge station, then go through the purple tunnel to Challenge Ridge. Solve all seven Purple Gourd puzzles, place every gourd into its panel, grab the key that rises from the ground, and read the messages in the hidden room behind the broken black sphere near spawn.

How to unlock and reach the Purple Gourd puzzles

The Purple Gourd challenges are locked until you reach the first ending, the Big Goodbye. You also need to clear the Black Sphere puzzle. Once both are done, all seven challenges become accessible from a single area on the far eastern side of the island called Challenge Ridge.

Finish the main story so the first ending plays, then reload into the map. The gourds will not appear before this point.
Ride the chairlift to the eastern ridge station. You need to have collected five Red Gourd items from nearby puzzles to unlock it.
From the station, look right for a purple tunnel. Walk through it and all seven purple markers appear on the large map, so you do not have to hunt for them one by one.

Note: Before touching any puzzle, agree on a shared signal system with your partner. Several challenges deliberately stop both of you from looking at the same screen, so decide what your clicks, taps, and numbers mean up front. Locking this in early saves a lot of wasted time.

Heavy Object: the long ball haul

This is the most demanding of the seven, mostly because of how long it drags on. You start at a platform with a flag and an arrow pointing toward the goal, but the ball you need is not near the arrow. You have to bring it back from an earlier puzzle, and expect the whole thing to take close to an hour with two players.

Purple Puzzle 1
Return to the original ball puzzle at the Blue Tower near the mountain, the one where you pushed a ball up a small hill toward a flag. Grab the ball.
Carry it down the mountain toward the train station near the Red Tower, then take the train around the map until you reach the Green Tower.
Get the ball from the Green Tower and carry it toward the rope bridge. Cross carefully, then work your way up the path toward the purple puzzle area.
Place the ball where the puzzle requires it to finish. Do not drop it on the drawbridge or fumble it off the rope bridge, or you may have to climb all the way back, and a bad throw can set you back further than the entire rest of the puzzle.

Tip: When crossing the drawbridge, have one player wait on the far side to help transfer the ball. If the carrier gets stuck or falls, you can end up back at the Green Tower starting over.

30-Minute Wait Room: start the timer and leave

This one barely qualifies as a puzzle. The name tells you the whole story, so use the wait to knock out other challenges instead of standing around.

Enter the dedicated wait-room building and find the button inside. Press it to start the timer.

Leave the room and go work on something else. You do not need to sit inside for the full 30 minutes.
Come back once the timer runs out. The Purple Gourd will be waiting inside.

Light Wall: signal 16 lights with a single bulb

Here the two of you are in separate buildings. One player can see 16 lights, the other cannot, and your only tool is a single light bulb used to send clicks. The whole thing lives or dies on a consistent numbering system.

Number all 16 lights together before touching anything. Going clockwise is the easiest arrangement for both players to follow.
How to Communicate in Light Wall puzzle big walk
The player who can see the lights clicks the bulb to call a number. One click is Light #1, two clicks is Light #2, three clicks is Light #3, and so on.
The other player selects the light they think was called. Confirm with two clicks for correct and one click for wrong, then repeat until every required light is done.

Do this one slowly. It gets confusing fast, and changing the code halfway through is the quickest way to lose track.

Music Box: fetch numbered objects by glass taps

The Music Box uses the same idea as the Light Wall, only you are identifying musical objects instead of lights. One player sits in the listening booth and taps the glass window to request items.

Take all the musical objects and line them up outside the puzzle area. Number them in a clear order, first object is #1, second is #2, and so on.

The player inside the booth taps the glass to request a number. One tap is object #1, two taps is object #2, three taps is object #3, and so on.
The outside player brings the requested object to the puzzle. Repeat until the full sequence is assembled.

Shape Matching: place nine numbered objects

There are nine objects and nine spots on the wall, and you cannot simply point to the right one. Organization is everything here.

Take all nine objects out of their starting positions and line them up neatly on the floor in a straight row. Number each one from one to nine.

Use the glass-tapping system to tell your partner which numbered object goes into each wall slot. Bring it over, place it, and repeat until all nine spots are filled.

Keeping the objects in a numbered row rather than scattered on the floor is what makes this readable for the other player.

Number Code: clear the junk tiles first

This room is full of number tiles, most of which you do not need. The puzzle gets far easier once you strip out the clutter before placing anything.

Head in together and compare the solution board against the tiles in the room. Kick away anything duplicated, irrelevant, or otherwise useless.
With only the useful panels left, use the solution board to work out where each one goes and place them accordingly.

Final Goal: the obstacle course kick

The last challenge drops the communication puzzles for pure physical control. You need to kick an object through a narrow obstacle course until it reaches the end gate.

Take your backpack off before entering. The character model can snag on tighter sections of the course otherwise.
Move the object through the course calmly. Do not force it through tight gaps, and it will reach the gate.

Install the gourds and trigger the true ending

Once you hold all seven Purple Gourds, one final co-op sequence unlocks the true ending and the Big Game trophy. Any puzzles you skipped earlier in the game also need to be finished for full completion.

Bring the seven gourds to the gourd panels. One player goes into the control room to open the panels while the other stays outside installing the gourds one by one.
When the last gourd is placed, a key rises from the ground. Take it back to the spawn area.
Find the secret room behind the broken black sphere on the wall near spawn. Read the messages inside. That triggers the true ending, full 100% completion, and the Big Game trophy.

You will know it worked when the final ending screen plays and the Big Game achievement registers. If your team gets permanently stuck on a puzzle that relies on hearing or fast reactions, the host can turn on challenge skipping from the accessibility settings so no single puzzle blocks progress.

The Purple Gourd set asks far more of your teamwork than anything earlier in Big Walk, but once you and your partner settle into a signaling rhythm, the seven challenges come together quickly and the true ending is yours.
