Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek, drags a serpent-heavy pile of new mounts onto Azeroth, and they are scattered across just about every activity you can name. Raids, a fresh Mythic+ season, three delves, PvP, renown vendors, and a poisoned new zone called the Coiled Isle all have something to farm. Some drop from world rares, some cost a small mountain of currency, and a few only land in the bags of players who finish at the very top of the ladder.
Quick answer: Roughly two dozen mounts arrive with Patch 12.1. Vendor, renown, delve, and world-content mounts are obtainable when the patch goes live on August 11, 2026, while every mount tied to the Venomous Abyss on Mythic, PvP Season 2, and Mythic+ ratings unlocks when Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18, 2026.

When each mount unlocks
The patch and the season do not arrive together. Patch 12.1 lands first with the Coiled Isle, renown progression, standard delves, and Altar of Fangs up to Heroic. Season 2 follows a week later and switches on the competitive content, so anything gated behind Mythic raiding, ranked PvP, or Mythic+ rating waits until then.

Coiled Isle exploration mounts
The Coiled Isle sits east of Zul’Aman and is packed with rare elites, hidden treasures, and the underground Vaults of Atal’Utek. Six mounts come straight from this zone, and most are available the moment you set foot on the island.
Auriferous Venomfang rewards Treasures of the Coiled Isle, so you need to track down every hidden treasure across the zone. Ruby Writhe and Topaz Skyfang are both pure luck, dropping at a low rate from the isle’s rare mobs. Caustic Venomfang is a straight purchase for 10,000 Corrosive Coin, no fight required.
Inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek, two more mounts wait. Emerald Skyfang needs 250 completed patrols for the Pro Poison Patroller achievement, and Venomous Coiler comes from clearing the vault’s Assault the Vault achievement set. Both are grinds rather than gambles, so consistent effort gets you there.
Renown and reputation vendors
Two factions carry mounts this patch, Zul’jarra’s Forces and the Bloodsworn Crew. These are largely about patience rather than skill, and the timegated questline in particular cannot be rushed.
Spirit of Tok’jara is the standout, tied to a six-part questline that unlocks over multiple weeks once you reach Zul’jarra’s Forces Rank 10. Indigo Coiled Horror and Violet-Backed Skyfang are both sold by Jan’sari the Watchful, unlocking at Rank 17 and Rank 19 respectively, and each costs a large sum of Voidlight Marl. The Sea-Dwelling Isle Serpent is the cheapest of the group, sold by Second Mate Sluggs for 2,500 Coiled Filament with the Bloodsworn Crew.
Solo content: delves and Prey
Players who prefer to run alone have four mounts to chase. Two come from delves and two from the new Prey season on the Coiled Isle.
Apophic Soul Crusher is the hard one. It requires soloing Azta’rec, the boss of the Venomfall Deeps Nemesis delve, for the Let Me Solo Him achievement, and that content opens with the season on August 18. If that fight is out of reach, Corroded Soul Crusher is the consolation prize, a vendor mount from Telemancer Astrandis for 10 Voidlight Marl once you hit Delver’s Journey Rank 5.
On the Prey side, Hexflame Reaver drops from the target Ral’kala during a hunt, while Preyhunter’s Fury is a vendor buy from Construct V’anore at Prey Journey Rank 10 for 2,250 Remnants of Anguish. Both are tied to seasonal progression, so expect to spread the grind out over several weeks.
Raid, dungeon, and Mythic+ mounts
The Venomous Abyss is an eight-boss raid that ends with Ula’tek. Primeval Skyfriend drops only from Ula’tek on Mythic difficulty, making it the toughest mount to pin down this patch. Crimson Venomfang is more attainable for organized groups, awarded through the Glory of the Venomous Raider meta-achievement, which spans encounters across the raid.
The new Altar of Fangs dungeon drops The Writhing Brood from its final boss, Zul’jan, on Mythic. On the ladder side, the Mythic+ rewards are all about rating. Breath of Blight requires a 2,000 rating for Keystone Master: Season 2, and Breath of Ruin demands a 3,000 rating for Keystone Legend: Season 2.
PvP Season 2 mounts
The headline PvP mount is Venomous Gladiator’s Goredrake, a green venom-themed drake that fits the Curse of Ula’tek fantasy. It comes from the Gladiator: Midnight Season 2 achievement, which means winning 50 rated 3v3 games while sitting at Elite rank during the season.
The Vicious Lightbloom Boar is far more forgiving. It only asks for wins in rated PvP while at 1,000+ rating, and there are separate Horde and Alliance versions. Earning one faction’s boar unlocks progress toward the other, so both are within reach of most rated players.
Shop, Trading Post, and unconfirmed mounts
Beyond the in-game grinds, several mounts arrive through other channels. The Trading Post adds the Leafmimic line in Verdant, Ember, Violet, and Aqua colors. The in-game shop carries multiple Witchwick’s Rider recolors, including Autumnal, Mossy, Moonlit, Blushing, Carmine, and Scarlet, plus the Whoofle Bramblewing. A Shadow Spirehawk is also tied to a promotion.
A handful of serpent recolors remain without a confirmed source. These may be world drops, future holiday rewards, or entries that only surfaced in testing and are not yet live. Until their sources are locked in, treat them as maybes rather than guaranteed additions to the patch.
Note: requirements and currency costs can still shift before the patch settles on live servers, so the vendor prices and rating thresholds above are the confirmed targets rather than permanent guarantees. Once realms are up, the vendor mounts and world rares are the fastest early wins, while the raid, PvP, and Mythic+ mounts reward the season’s long haul.
