The Witcher 3: How to Unlock the Secret Ending of Crime and Punishment

Free Yorg on the Skellige coast, then head to Rogne to uncover the full truth behind his sentence.

Free Yorg on the Skellige coast, then head to Rogne to uncover the full truth behind his sentence.

Crime and Punishment is one of those easy-to-miss Skellige side jobs that hides a second half most players never see. Finishing it takes only a few minutes on a lonely stretch of coast, but there is a quieter, more revealing ending waiting inland that explains who Yorg really is and why he was chained to a rock in the first place.

Quick answer: Free Yorg from the rocks east of the Ancient Crypt, then travel southwest to Rogne and speak with the crying girl near Gretter’s grave to trigger the extra ending.

Where to start Crime and Punishment in Skellige

The quest begins on a small peninsula on the coast of Ard Skellig, east of the Ancient Crypt signpost. There is no quest marker to guide you there first, which is why so many people walk past it. The simplest route is to fast travel to the Ancient Crypt if you have already unlocked it, then take a boat and sail east around the coastline until the quest icon appears.

Until that signpost is unlocked, reach the area by boat across the water. The encounter is intended for around 18, and features three harpies as its only enemies.

The quest’s journal entry says the man is chained on Undvik, but he is actually on Ard Skellig. Follow the on-screen icon east of the Ancient Crypt rather than the journal text.

Free Yorg to keep the quest open

Go to the coastal outcrop, where harpies are attacking a man bound to the rocks. Kill each of the three harpies first.
Talk to Yorg, the man in chains. He says he was falsely accused of murder and pleads with Geralt to set him free. Choose whether to unchain him or let him die.
Choose to free him. Geralt removes the chains, Yorg thanks you and promises to help if you ever meet again, and the quest is marked complete with 10 XP.

If you leave Yorg chained and then travel too far from the beach, the quest fails and he dies. To see the full version of the ending, you must free him here.

Trigger the secret ending at Rogne

Completing the quest is not the end of the story. The additional ending plays out in the village of Rogne, southwest of where you found Yorg, and it fills in everything the chained man left out.

Go to Rogne, then make your way to its northwest edge, a little west of the village center. Villagers have gathered at a grave to mourn Gretter, calling him a good man and denouncing Yorg.
As the dispute continues, a young girl shouts that her brother was an honorable man, then runs a little way off, crying. Go after her.
Talk to the girl. She is Yorg’s sister, and she blames herself for what happened. She admits she lied about her uncle Gretter because she disliked him, telling Yorg that Gretter had done bad things to her. In his rage, Yorg killed their uncle.

Skellige’s sole penalty for deliberately killing a family member is a slow death, chained beside the sea. This casts Yorg’s claim of being falsely accused on the beach in a different light.

Your final dialogue choice and how to confirm it worked

After the girl explains herself, you are given a choice that depends on what you did earlier at the rocks.

Earlier choiceAvailable responses
Freed YorgTell her you freed him and he will return soon, or tell her she has learned her lesson
Left Yorg chainedOnly “she has learned her lesson” is available

If you freed Yorg and tell the girl, she is relieved and swears never to lie again. Neither response changes the outcome of the quest itself, so pick whichever fits how you want Geralt to leave things. Once the conversation ends, the journal updates with the fuller account of Yorg’s crime and punishment, which confirms you have seen the extra ending. After that, you are free to carry on exploring Skellige.
