Logan enters Marvel’s Wolverine with most of his memory gone, and that gap sits at the center of how Liam McIntyre plays him. The voice actor describes a version of the character who lashes out without fully understanding why, framing the game as a story about identity as much as violence.

Quick answer: Logan has amnesia at the start of the game, so he cannot trace the source of his own rage. McIntyre puts it plainly, saying Logan “doesn’t know why he feels the way he feels or where this rage comes from a lot of the time.”

How Logan’s amnesia shapes the story

The game opens with Logan having lost most of his past. He does not recognize where his anger comes from, and the plot uses that confusion as its engine. This is a “younger” take on a character who is roughly 200 years old, so his personality and history are still unsettled rather than fixed.

To recover what he has forgotten, the game leans on memory rooms that return fragments of Logan’s past over time. These sequences are how he pieces together who he was, and they were previewed in the story trailer alongside the rest of his journey.

McIntyre argues that this uncertainty makes Logan more human. As he puts it, “beneath the claws and healing factor is a character struggling with the question of who he is supposed to be.” The point of the amnesia is less about a plot twist and more about grounding the character in doubt.

The rage, and why Logan fears it

Logan’s “bottomless rage” is central to the game, and it feeds directly into combat. The action includes a rage mode that tints the screen red and lets Logan chain together instant kills, turning his fury into a mechanic rather than just a mood.

McIntyre frames that anger as a tool with a purpose. In his words, “Logan wants to protect people who cannot protect themselves, and perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t particularly like the person he can become when that rage takes over.” The tension is that the thing making him dangerous is also the thing he distrusts about himself.

That reluctance lines up with the marketing, which has leaned on the “I ain’t no hero. I’m Wolverine” tagline. McIntyre reads the character as someone actively trying to be better and to break away from the feral instinct that has always defined him.

McIntyre on following Hugh Jackman

The Spartacus actor is candid about stepping into a role tied so closely to Hugh Jackman. He does not treat it as filling Jackman’s “shoes,” and instead points the focus back to what players take away from the experience.

He closed his comments with a question aimed at the audience: “When you put that controller down, what do you feel? Are you going to feel something? Is it going to mean something?” The remarks came from an interview that has since been taken down, later resurfacing through community discussion.
