Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is no longer landing in September. King Art Games moved the real-time strategy game from its original September 17th date to December 3rd, 2026, giving the team more weeks to sort out bugs, performance, and general polish before launch. It remains a PC-only release on Steam.
Quick answer: Dawn of War 4 launches December 3rd, 2026 on PC. If you own the Commander Edition, you get in three days early on November 30th.
New release date and early access window
The delay is a little over two months. The standard launch now sits on December 3rd, 2026, while Commander Edition owners can start playing on November 30th thanks to the three-day advanced access that edition includes.

Game director Jan Theysen explained the move in a video update, and he framed it as a polish decision rather than a sign of anything broken. King Art says community playtests went well and that thousands of players have already shaped the game through their feedback.
We know from your feedback that the game feels right, and we captured what makes Dawn of War so special. So why delay it? It’s because we need the extra weeks to get more of your feedback into the game, to fix bugs, improve performance, and polish the experience.
The extra time goes toward performance optimization, bug fixing, gameplay polish, and folding in more notes from recent playtesting. Theysen added that the studio wants “every player has the best possible experience from day one.” More gameplay footage, battlefield reports, and deeper mechanic breakdowns are still planned in the run-up to launch.
The post-launch roadmap has shifted too
Because the launch moved, King Art also slid its first-year content plan back. Exact dates aren’t locked in yet, but here’s the order things are expected to arrive.
| Window | Content |
|---|---|
| Early 2027 | Crusade Mode and Map Pack 1 |
| A little before spring | Lord Ahmok in Last Stand Crusade, Map Pack 2, and the Blood Ravens Story Prologue |
| After spring | Mission Editor and Map Pack 3 |
| Summer 2027 | Guzcutta in Last Stand Crusade, Map Pack 4, and the Aftermath campaign expansion with a new faction |

What Dawn of War 4 actually is
This entry is a return to the classic real-time strategy formula, and it’s the first mainline Dawn of War in nearly a decade. Notably, Relic Entertainment isn’t leading development this time. Deep Silver handed the project to King Art Games, the studio behind Iron Harvest.
Four factions are in at launch, which are the Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and Adeptus Mechanicus. The campaign runs more than 70 missions, and you can play them solo or in co-op.
One side effect of the new date is timing. Pushing to December 3rd puts a couple weeks of breathing room between Dawn of War 4 and GTA 6’s November 19th arrival, and it also moves the game out of a September crowded with other big releases. For a strategy franchise fans have waited years to see revived, the trade of a few extra weeks for a steadier launch is an easy one to make.
