Close-quarters fights are constant in Mistfall Hunter, and the melee kits that win them share a few traits: durable frames, reliable pressure, and a way to force ranged players into a corner. Four builds separate themselves from the rest when hunter-versus-hunter combat starts, and each one wins its duels for a different reason.
Quick answer: Run the Greatsword Withered Knight or the Warhammer Mercenary as your top-tier melee PvP pick. Both sit at S+ for durability and pressure. The Dual Blade Shadowstrix and Stealth Shadowstrix follow at S tier for burst and ambush control.
Melee PvP tier ranking
Every class in the game carries two weapon stances, so the specialization matters as much as the class name. The list below covers the melee stances that lead PvP encounters, along with what makes each one dangerous.
| Tier | Build | Main strength |
|---|---|---|
| S+ | Greatsword Withered Knight | Parry counters, balanced mobility, high durability |
| S+ | Warhammer Mercenary | Crowd control, super armor, relentless pressure |
| S | Dual Blade Shadowstrix | Fast burst combos, cooldown resets, agility |
| S | Stealth Shadowstrix | Repeated stealth, ambush criticals, area stuns |

Add to Google Preferences →Greatsword Withered Knight (S+)
The Greatsword Withered Knight is the most versatile melee pick for player fights. Its Parry blocks all incoming damage and answers with a heavy counter, which lets it trade favorably against almost any attacker. Between Sprinting Slash and Opportunistic Thrust, it repositions constantly while landing heavy hits that apply Wither and expose enemy weak points.
Breakthrough Charge gives it a way to chase, and the Dominance and Cataclysm perks turn that charge into a lethal follow-up. The Greatsword archetype also upgrades the Wither Mark into a stronger curse when you stack it in succession. Taking the Greatsword specialization frees up one extra Greatsword skill in exchange for a Polearm and Shield slot, which is how you fit in Thorn, its signature pull skill.

The branching combos are what let it beat even ranged opponents. Close the gap with Breakthrough Charge, then drag the target into range with Thorn before they can reset spacing.
Preferred affixes: Fervid, Tenacious, Stoic, Burst, Fervor.
Warhammer Mercenary (S+)
The Warhammer stance turns the Mercenary into a pressure machine. It can split parties and control the ground around it, pummeling the floor to topple foes and boxing in anyone caught in a tight space. Once it lands a hit, it keeps chaining. Assault Hammer, Punishing Hammer, and Power Hammer close distance and keep pressure on even mid-dodge.

The threat of a charged hammer drop is a deterrent on its own, forcing careful play in enclosed areas. Hammer Dash becomes especially strong in Trios, where its cooldown drops sharply and adds mobility. Earthshaker is the finisher: against a staggered target, a Level 1 charge paralyzes them long enough for a decisive blow.
The build’s real advantage is Super Armor while charging, powered by the Hammer of Convergence, Unstoppable, and Relentless Advance passives. Adding the Leap Step upgrade to Earthshaker lets you dodge and move mid-charge, which closes off the usual counterplay.
Preferred affixes: Fervor, Unyielding, Stoic, Bulwark, Tenacious.
Dual Blade Shadowstrix (S)
The Dual Blade Shadowstrix is built to lock onto a target and delete it. Its fast combos stack burst damage and stagger, and it hunts rearguard players like Sorcerers, Seers, and Blackarrows while still keeping tools to trade with heavier armor.
Pursuit Strike and Flurry Strike let it dart in and out of range, and the Wound Buildup talent turns those two basics into a ticking burst threat. Bloody Blade Dance is the main damage skill, a charged flurry you can boost with either Bloodthirsty Frenzy, which stacks damage buffs and deflects projectiles, or Shadow Dance, which lets you fire it straight out of a dodge.
The talent that ties it together is Stance Recovery, found on the second Talent Page, bottom right. Every Light Attack that lands chips down the cooldowns of your Dual Blade and Dagger skills, so your rotation almost never runs dry.
Preferred affixes: Seeker, Strife, Valor, Elusive.
Stealth Shadowstrix (S)
The Dagger-focused Stealth Shadowstrix is underrated in PvP but generates constant pressure by pivoting in and out of stealth at will. With cooldown-reduction affixes and the right talents, it can re-enter stealth roughly every five seconds, which makes a one-on-one fight miserable for the target.

The core combo is Shadow Wheel Slash. Every three strikes opens a 0.5 second window to chain another attack that restores energy and deals stagger damage, letting you continue with a spinning dagger attack (LMB) or a heavy spinning kick (RMB). Breaking stealth to start a combo also boosts damage.
Several talents push the ambush loop further:
| Talent | Effect |
|---|---|
| Frequency Shift (Sneak Arcana) | Enters a semi-stealth state for a second ambush |
| Element of Surprise | Deals critical damage on attacks from behind |
| Swift Sneak | Turns Sneak into an instant stealth skill |
| Shadow Slash (page 2, bottom left) | Every combo reduces the Stealth cooldown |
| Blackout (page 3) | Empowers Crow Storm to open ambushes with a stun AoE |
Stacked together, Shadow Slash and the Frequency Shift bonus can take stealth down toward a five-second cycle, so you stay invisible except during a full ambush combo. Opening each engagement with the empowered Crow Storm stun makes it hard for a lone target to fight back.
Preferred affixes: Seamless, Seeker, Strife.
How to pick between them
Choose the Greatsword Withered Knight when you want the safest all-around duelist that can parry and still chase down ranged players. Take the Warhammer Mercenary when you want to bully opponents in tight spaces and outlast burst with super armor. The two Shadowstrix builds trade durability for speed. Go Dual Blade for raw burst and cooldown resets against squishier backline targets, and Stealth when controlling when the fight starts matters more than surviving a drawn-out brawl.
Because abilities live on weapons rather than the character, you can swap stances mid-match to adjust your kit. Test each specialization in a few runs before committing, since the melee stance you carry decides whether you dictate the fight or react to it.
