Stygian Onslaught refreshes with every version, and the 7.1 rotation is shaping up around three bosses that punish raw damage and reward specific reactions. Two of them lean hard into Cryo, while the third asks for Electro. Knowing which element clears each shield phase matters more than usual here, because the fights are built to stall you until you trigger the right mechanic.
Quick answer: The 7.1 Stygian Onslaught lineup is the Battle-hardened Domovoy Sculptor (Cryo), the Secret Source Automaton Configuration Device (Cryo), and the Guardian Blade of the Drifting Snow (Electro). Build teams around those elements before the mode goes live.

Note: everything below is unconfirmed until HoYoverse publishes official details, so numbers and phrasing can still shift between beta builds.
7.1 Stygian Onslaught bosses and recommended elements
Three battlefields, three bosses, and three separate teams. Characters and gear can’t be reused across the arenas, so plan a Cryo core for two fights and an Electro answer for the last.
| Boss | Recommended element |
|---|---|
| Battle-hardened Domovoy Sculptor | Cryo |
| Secret Source Automaton Configuration Device | Cryo |
| Guardian Blade of the Drifting Snow | Electro |
Battle-hardened Domovoy Sculptor mechanics
This sculptor sits behind a flat 130% resistance to every element, so you don’t beat it by hitting harder. You beat it by feeding it Stellar Glimmer at the right moment.
Eight seconds after combat starts, and every 16 seconds after that, the boss begins crafting two ice sculptures, taking four seconds each. Finished sculptures continuously strike whoever is on the field, so leaving them up is a slow bleed on your team.
The turnaround comes from Stellar Glimmer. If the boss is affected by it during the crafting window, the ice sculpture converts into a harmless statue. That statue self-detonates after 1.5 seconds, dealing 500,000 x 2 damage to the boss only and applying resistance shred. Each stack drops the boss’s Anemo resistance by 35% and its other resistances by 25%, stacking up to three times.
At higher difficulty, Ley Line Disorder raises the boss’s resistance to all Elemental and Physical damage and makes it sculpt more often. The core loop stays the same: interrupt sculptures with Stellar Glimmer, let the statues explode, and stack the resistance reduction before you commit your damage window.
Secret Source Automaton Configuration Device mechanics
The Automaton opens in an Empowered State with a punishing 270% resistance to all elements while it charges a spinning attack. The more energy it builds, the harder that spin hits, so you want to shut the state down early.

Cryo is the key. During the Empowered State, if the boss takes Cryo damage more often than once every 0.6 seconds, it drops into a Low-Energy State. There its Cryo resistance falls to -30%, other resistances become 30%, and on first entering it generates elemental particles worth 36 Energy.
There’s a second trigger tied to Nightsoul’s Blessing. If the Automaton detects a character under that status, it enters a Special State at 110% resistance and switches to a powerful homing beam. Sustained Cryo hits while it’s in the Nightsoul-triggered state stop its attack and cut its resistance further.
The damage-model detail worth remembering is Liquid Momentum. In its Eradication Mode, the boss spins faster and hits harder as momentum climbs, and Cryo damage strips that momentum. Drain it low enough and the spin stops, resistances drop, and it spawns extra elemental orbs the first time it halts. Ley Line Disorder makes it lose less momentum per Cryo hit, so higher difficulty demands more consistent Cryo uptime.
Guardian Blade of the Drifting Snow mechanics
The Frostwind Spirit’s biggest change is a softer Cryo wall. It no longer holds 50% Cryo resistance and instead sits at 10%, which is a large concession compared with its overworld form. The fight is built around a shield-and-shatter rhythm.
When the boss reaches 80% HP, its health locks for five seconds and it raises a 42U Cryo elemental shield. If it takes Stellar Glimmer while that shield is up, the shield converts into an HP-based barrier equal to 15% of its max HP. Both shield types share a 20-second timer.
How you break the shield decides how much HP the boss loses:
| Outcome | Result |
|---|---|
| Shield left unbroken | Boss regenerates 10% HP |
| Cryo elemental shield broken | Boss loses 10% HP |
| HP-based shield broken | Boss loses 10% HP plus 60% of damage taken while it was active, capped at 10% of max HP |
Breaking either shield paralyzes the boss for 10 seconds, and during that stun all of its resistances drop to -40%. That paralysis is your main damage window. Thirty seconds after a shield breaks the boss deploys the Cryo elemental shield one more time, and after that it stops shielding entirely.
One important interaction: the HP-based shield behaves as a barrier, similar to the Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares. Damage dealt to that barrier can still proc effects like Sacrificial and Favonius weapon passives, which helps energy generation during the shield phase.
How to prep before 7.1 goes live
Two of the three arenas run through Cryo, so a strong Cryo damage core covers most of the mode. The Automaton specifically wants fast, repeated Cryo application to drain its energy and momentum, so units that hit often beat single slow bursts. Stellar Glimmer access matters for both the Domovoy Sculptor and the Frostwind Spirit, since it converts their sculptures and shields into openings.
Save your Electro team for the Guardian Blade of the Drifting Snow, and remember that characters can’t be shared across battlefields. No official start date for the 7.1 rotation is confirmed yet, so treat the lineup and every number here as rumored until HoYoverse posts the details.
