Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is built around large-scale team combat, not a scripted single-player experience. If you came looking for a narrative to play through solo, that option does not exist here. The game uses the Vietnam War purely as the setting for its multiplayer battles.

Quick answer: No. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam does not include a campaign or story mode. Every match is online multiplayer, with two teams of up to 50 players fighting across shared maps.

No single-player campaign in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

The game has no dedicated campaign, no story missions, and no scripted solo content. This matches the design of the original Hell Let Loose, which was also multiplayer-only. Expression Games and Team17 built the project around online 50v50 warfare from the start.

Because the focus is entirely on multiplayer, a broadband internet connection is required to play. There is no offline mode that lets you fight against a scripted enemy force through a series of chapters.

Note: The developers added a tutorial to help newcomers learn the systems, since the original game was often criticized for weak onboarding. A tutorial is not a campaign, but it does give solo players a place to learn the basics before joining live matches.

What you play instead: multiplayer modes

Rather than a story, the game gives you several multiplayer modes. Each one changes the objectives and pacing, but all of them share the same core loop of capturing ground, holding positions, and coordinating with your squad. Warfare is the standard mode, where two teams start on opposite sides of a map and fight for control of sectors.

ModeGoal
WarfareA tug-of-war fight for control of sectors; the team holding more ground when time runs out wins.
OffensiveOne team attacks and the other defends fixed positions.
ConquestObjective-based territory control between the two teams.
DominationFast-paced control of key points on the map.

Victory depends on the mode and its objectives, but teamwork and communication matter in all of them. You fill an assigned role, capture enemy territory, and defend important positions alongside your teammates. Outcomes shift from match to match based on how both sides move, attack, and hold ground.

Factions, roles, and battlefield features

You pick a side between the US Armed Forces and the North Vietnamese Army (NVA). The two factions do not play the same way, which is central to the game’s design. Each 50-player team is split into squads, and you choose from 19 specialised roles that include infantry, recon, armour, mortar squads, and helicopter units.

The two sides get different tools. Helicopters are available only to US forces, marking the first time controllable aerial units appear in the series. The NVA can build extensive tunnel networks for surprise attacks. Both teams can use patrol boats across the river networks that run through every map.

At launch, the game includes six large maps that recreate real-world locations and terrain, from jungles and rice paddies to beaches and hills. Success is measured by team coordination rather than individual kill counts, and the mechanics reward communication over lone play.

Where and how to play

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam released on August 13, 2026, running on Unreal Engine 5. It is a standalone game, not an expansion or DLC for the original Hell Let Loose, which continues to receive support from a separate team.

If a story-driven Vietnam War game is what you want, this is not it. But if you are after large, coordinated battles where your role in a squad decides the fight, the multiplayer modes are the whole experience.
