Genshin Impact 7.0: How to Solve the Secret Room Puzzle in House of the Soulless

Place three ice statues on the board along the diagonal so their shadows block the paintings and open the hidden cellar.

Place three ice statues on the board along the diagonal so their shadows block the paintings and open the hidden cellar.

The secret room puzzle sits in the middle of the House of the Soulless quest, part of the larger Hesperides of Love and Hate questline in Snezhnaya. You are locked in a small chamber with a three-by-three board on the floor, painted picture frames on the wall, and ice statues you can build and move. The goal is to position three statues so their shadows fall across the white sections of the paintings.

Quick answer: Build and place statues on the diagonal running from the top-left slot (1) to the center slot (5) to the bottom-right slot (9). Placing the first two opens a hidden room with a second statue blueprint; adding the third statue completes the diagonal, opens the board, and reveals the path down to the cellar.

How the board and statues work

Think of the floor board as a numbered grid, one to nine, reading left to right and top to bottom. Slot 1 is the top-left corner near the tripod lights, slot 5 is the exact center, and slot 9 is the bottom-right corner. The diagonal you need runs 1, 5, 9.

You do not carry the statues by hand. You use the Eye of Graeae to break a statue from its original spot and rebuild it on the slot you want, spending Prime Ice Resource each time. A statue only helps when its shadow lands on the white part of a painting, so the placement order matters.

Solve the puzzle step by step

Clear the board first. Remove the statue that is already sitting on it so you have a clean grid to work with.
Grab the Temporary Blueprint for Snegurochka Statue I from the corner of the room. This is the statue holding a creature in its hands, and it is the one you place first.
Open the Eye of Graeae menu and build the statue on slot 1, the top-left corner near the tripod lights. Confirm the build to spend the Prime Ice Resource.

Build a second copy of the same statue on slot 5, the center square, so the two statues sit diagonally from each other. A cat appears and triggers a mechanism on one of the paintings, and a hidden room opens up.
Enter the newly opened room. Inside you can pick up the Temporary Blueprint for Snegurochka Statue II, open the Remarkable Chest, and collect a Collectible Painting.

Build the new statue, the one holding a sword, on slot 9, the bottom-right corner. This completes the diagonal line of 1, 5, 9 and casts the sword’s shadow across two paintings at once.

How to know the puzzle is solved

Once all three statues sit on the diagonal, the board in the middle of the room opens up. That is the confirmation the puzzle is done. A path to a secret cellar appears below.

Head down into the cellar to recover the first Ikhor fragment, which is the whole point of the quest step. There is also a Precious Chest to claim while you are down there. Reclaiming the fragment finishes House of the Soulless and advances you into the Procrustes’ Iron Bed quest.

If the board will not open

The most common reason the puzzle fails to trigger is a broken diagonal. The three statues must sit on slots 1, 5, and 9, not on any other combination. If the hidden room never opens after your first two placements, check that both statues are the Snegurochka Statue I model and that they are on the top-left and center squares rather than adjacent squares.

The final statue also has to be the sword-holding Snegurochka Statue II picked up from the hidden room. Placing a third copy of the first statue will not cast the correct shadow, so build the sword statue on slot 9 to line the shadows up with the paintings.
