The chest sitting in the middle of Mushroom Village in Mortal Shell 2 stays sealed no matter how many times you interact with it. Approach it and the prompt confirms the catch. The chest is locked until three offerings are made, and those offerings are three candles hidden nearby that you have to light one by one.
Quick answer: Light all three candles in Mushroom Village, one behind the locked chest on the wooden stage, one straight ahead near the village’s side gateway, and one beside the dancing villagers next to the Weltcaps. Once all three burn, return to the chest and open it for a Glimpse and the Auspicious Stone.
How to reach Mushroom Village
Most players wander into Mushroom Village naturally while exploring, but if an angry villager killed you and you need a clean route back, start from the Widow’s Overlook Beacon.
Head south-east from the Beacon and stay on the path. After you pass the three cultist enemies, turn left and you’ll step into the village. Several enemies inside stay passive until you get close, so clear the ones near you before you start searching for candles.

Before you touch anything, walk straight past the chest and continue to the far end of the village to activate the Mushroom Village Beacon. Unlocking it gives you a fast-travel point and a safe reset spot, which makes lighting the candles far less risky.
Tip: If your map is still covered in fog, don’t go left into the village yet. Head right past the tree toward the jump pad first to grab your first map, then come back for the candles.

All three candles sit inside the village, fairly close to the chest but spread across different corners. Deal with the dancing enemies as you go, then work through them in this order.

Open the chest and claim the rewards
With all three candles lit, walk back to the chest in the middle of the village. The lock is gone, so interact with it to open it. If the prompt still says offerings are needed, one candle isn’t lit yet, so retrace your route and check each of the three spots again.
Inside you’ll find a Glimpse and the Auspicious Stone.
| Reward | What it does |
|---|---|
| Glimpse | A resource used for Shell bonding and upgrades |
| Auspicious Stone | A Support Tarstone that raises your melee Critical Chance |
The Auspicious Stone is worth keeping equipped early on, since the extra melee Critical Chance helps against the tougher enemies and shrines ahead. Once the chest is open, you can keep exploring Mushroom Village for its other secrets or leave through one of its exits to press on through the world of Mortal Shell 2.
