The Disciple’s Grotto Beacon sits in the prologue stretch of Mortal Shell 2, and cleansing it opens a short dungeon called the Derelict Hideout. It is a compact, mostly linear run with a couple of archers, a large enemy that throws rocks, and one weapon upgrade item that is easy to miss.
Quick answer: Select Cleanse Beacon, ride the elevator down into the Derelict Hideout, kill the ground soldier and the crossbow enemy, break the crates to the left and squeeze through the wall gap, defeat the rock-throwing enemy at the end, then cleanse the corruption. Before you return to the surface, grab the Ventrium from the green pedestal behind it.

What cleansing the Disciple’s Grotto Beacon gives you
Cleansing a Beacon means entering its dungeon, clearing the enemies, and removing the source of corruption at the end. Doing so also clears the overgrowth blocking nearby loot, so you can pick up items you could not touch before. This particular dungeon has no named boss, just a single heavy enemy that throws rocks and performs ground smashes.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Beacon | Disciple’s Grotto |
| Dungeon | Derelict Hideout |
| Main reward | +1 Glimpse |
| Pedestal item | Ventrium (weapon upgrade material) |
| Boss | None (large rock-throwing enemy) |
Glimpse is the resource you spend to locate and strengthen your bonds with Shells, so it is worth clearing this dungeon even though the fight itself is short.

Beating the rock-throwing enemy
The heavy enemy at the end of the path has two threats to watch. It lobs rocks at range, and it does a heavy ground smash up close. Bait the smash, dodge or Harden through it, then punish while it recovers. Keep the smaller archers and melee foes cleared out first so you are not staggered from behind while you close the gap.
Grab the Ventrium before you leave
The most commonly missed item here is the Ventrium sitting on the green pedestal behind the cleansed corruption. It is a weapon upgrade material you will want later, and once you teleport out you would have to run the route again to collect it. Step around to the pedestal and pick it up first, then return to the surface.
Note: The green glow marks the pedestal even when it is still partly obscured, so head toward the light behind the boss position rather than straight for the exit prompt.

How to confirm the Beacon is cleansed
You know the cleanse worked when you claim the reward at the end and teleport back to the surface Beacon. Clearing it awards +1 Glimpse, and the Beacon itself now offers the full set of actions when you interact with it, including Level Up, Change Equipment, and fast travel back to Marrow Keep. If the Beacon still only lets you rest, you have not finished the dungeon or removed the corruption yet.
From the Disciple’s Grotto Beacon you have several directions to explore. Heading up leads toward Garrick’s Den, while going down continues the prologue path toward the Tar Golem encounter and, eventually, Marrow Keep.
