The Diving Helmet is the deep-water breathing piece of the three-part Diving Suit added in Grounded 2’s Into the Abyss update, and you cannot buy it until you find the right recipe unlock inside Skunk Pond. It sits behind an Aquatic Optical Disk hidden in the Ominent Diving Station, and once you turn that disk in, the helmet becomes a Science Shop purchase like any other equipment blueprint.
Quick answer: Dive to the Diving Station at the bottom of Skunk Pond, pick up the Aquatic Optical Disk from the lab bench, take it to a Science Shop, and unlock the Diving Helmet under Optical Disk Unlocks for 1,500 Raw Science. Then craft it at a workbench using Quartz Glass, Toe Biter Shell, Cattail Fluff, and Wax.
What you need before reaching the Diving Station
The Diving Helmet itself is not required to fetch its own recipe disk. You only need basic pond equipment that gives you enough oxygen and swim control to reach the station and climb back out. Prepare the following first.
| Item | Why you need it |
|---|---|
| Clippers | Cut Eelgrass Strand for early pond gear (unlocked for 1,000 Raw Science, plus Lilypad Wax and a Water Boatman Fin). |
| Gill Tube | Adds oxygen so you can reach the first Skunk Pond lab route. |
| Fin Flops | Improves swim speed while crossing and descending the pond. |
| Charcoal Torch | Optional light for the dark, cold water above the Diving Station ladder. |
Analyze an Eelgrass Strand to unlock the Gill Tube and a Water Boatman Fin to unlock Fin Flops. The Gill Tube costs 2 Lilypad Wax, 4 Eelgrass Strands, and 2 Silk Rope. Treat this kit as staging gear only. It gets you to the station, but it will not satisfy the later Abyss scanner, which checks for the full Diving Suit.

The recipe unlock lives on a bench inside the Ominent Diving Station at the bottom of Skunk Pond. This is the same disk that opens the Diving Helmet in the Science Shop, so retrieving it is the whole task for this piece.

Note: This lab disk unlocks the Diving Helmet specifically. The other two disks, found up the Gnarly Bark tree and on top of the bridge, unlock the Diving Boots and the Diving Suit Chestplate. You only need the Diving Station disk for the helmet.
Unlock the Diving Helmet recipe for 1,500 Raw Science
With the disk in hand, return to a Science Shop (ASL terminal). The Diving Helmet appears under Optical Disk Unlocks. Buy it for 1,500 Raw Science, which is the same cost as each of the other two suit pieces, making 4,500 Raw Science for the full set.

If the helmet does not appear in the shop, the disk has not been turned in yet. Buying the recipe only makes it craftable. You still need the materials before you can build it at a workbench.
Craft the Diving Helmet: materials and Quartz Glass
Once unlocked, the Diving Helmet is crafted at a workbench. The real time cost is the Quartz Glass chain, so gather that first.
| Diving Helmet material | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Quartz Glass | Grind Phantom Quartz Shard in a Quern, then fire it in a Kiln (uses 1 Horsetail Stem each). |
| Toe Biter Shell | Killed from regular nymph Toe Biters, including under the bridge. |
| Cattail Fluff | Collected at the pond skimmer basket. |
| Wax | Found on lily pads. |
For the Quartz Glass, mine the purple crystal clusters under Gnarly Bark to collect Phantom Quartz Shard, grind it in a Quern, then smelt it in a Kiln. To unlock the Kiln blueprint, cut Horsetails with tier 2 Clippers and analyze a Horsetail Stem. If you plan to finish the whole suit later, the three pieces together need 9 Quartz Glass and therefore 9 Horsetail Stems.

What the Diving Helmet does
The Diving Helmet carries the Master Diver effect, which extends how long you can breathe on deep routes. That makes it the breathing piece of the set, built for the longer descents that a Gill Tube cannot support on its own. It is not a straight upgrade to the Gill Tube for casual swimming; it belongs to the final three-piece equipment check.
The Chestplate adds Chill Reduction and the Boots add a sinking ballast that counters buoyancy. On its own, the helmet does not open the Abyss. The deep lab scanner only accepts the complete Diving Suit, so you need the Chestplate and Boots as well before the moon pool opens.
Confirm the unlock worked
You know the unlock succeeded when the Diving Helmet moves out of Optical Disk Unlocks and appears as a craftable recipe at your workbench. After crafting, the helmet shows the Master Diver effect in its item details.
If the deep lab scanner still reads ACCESS DENIED with the helmet on, the block is the rest of the suit, not the helmet. The scanner checks that the Diving Helmet, Diving Suit Chestplate, and Diving Boots are all equipped at the same time. Owning the helmet is not the same as wearing the full set, so verify all three slots before you try the door.
