Diavolo is the SSR Agility assassin in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Spirit built around one job: deleting a single high-value target. His kit stacks Stealth, Isolation, and Defense penetration into a short window, and the build either supports that window or wastes it. Getting him right is less about raw stats and more about hitting a few specific unlock thresholds.
Quick answer: Take Diavolo to 3-star and unlock his S1 ability, run the four-piece The Greatest High Known to Man! Dramatic Scene set with Attack as the base attribute, equip Kenzou Badge, and slot Gem of Fury into the badge sockets.
Dupes and abilities: why 3-star with S1 is the real starting line
Diavolo’s passives unlock at fixed star counts, and the one that changes how he plays is the second. Only the Results Remain unlocks at 3-star and does two things at once. Attacks against Isolated enemies penetrate 4% of their Defense and restore 50 Energy to Diavolo. That Energy return is what keeps his Ultimate cycling instead of stalling out mid-fight.
His first passive, Mysterious “Boss”, comes online at 2-star and gives a 10% Attack and Max HP bump plus a 10-second Stealth state at the start of every battle. While he is in Stealth, every hit he lands deals an extra 100% of Attack. The third passive, Now and Forevermore, needs 5-star and applies undispellable Isolation for 6 seconds whenever he casts a skill, along with Damage Res stacks.
| Star level | What unlocks | Effect at Lv.1 |
|---|---|---|
| 2-star | Mysterious “Boss” | +10% Attack and Max HP, 10s opening Stealth, +100% Attack bonus damage while stealthed |
| 3-star | Only the Results Remain | 4% Defense penetration and 50 Energy restored on hits against Isolated enemies |
| 5-star | Now and Forevermore | 2 stacks of Damage Res on skill cast, 6s undispellable Isolation on the target |
Dupes past 3-star are not filler. Going from 1-star to 5-star raises his measured single-target DPS by roughly 165%, and almost all of that jump lands between 3-star and 5-star. If you cannot get there, 3-star with S1 is the point where the build stops feeling half-finished.

Add to Google Preferences →Which Ultimate to run: Finished Now over Time Erasure
Diavolo has two Ultimate options and only one of them fits an assassin build. Finished Now is the pick. It scales up to 1800% of Attack and reaches 2000% at Lv.3, with added damage against Isolated targets — exactly the state his own kit creates.
Time Erasure is the alternative. It makes him Unselectable for 2 seconds, teleports him behind the target, and hits everything within 1 tile for 1000% of Attack, plus 600% extra against enemies below 50% HP. It scales to 1200% at Lv.4. The survivability window is real, but the raw payload is far lower, and Diavolo has no AoE role worth protecting.
His non-Ultimate skill, Unavoidable Blow, costs 50 Energy and teleports him to a target up to 8 tiles away for 400% of Attack plus 10 stacks of Grievous Wound. Levelling it matters more than the damage number suggests: the cooldown drops from 18 seconds at Lv.1 to 10 seconds at Lv.3, which roughly doubles how often you can apply Isolation and trigger the Energy refund.
Best Dramatic Scenes for Diavolo
Run four pieces of The Greatest High Known to Man!. The four-piece bonus gives a 50% chance to penetrate 20% of the target’s Defense whenever he uses an Ultimate. Stacked on top of the 4–8% penetration from his own passive, that is the single biggest multiplier available to him, and it fires on the exact action his whole build is designed around.
Do Something is the fallback if you have not assembled a full Greatest High set. It performs close enough to be usable while you farm, but it does not stack Defense penetration into the Ultimate the way the primary set does.

Scene attributes to prioritize
Base attributes should be Attack across the board. Nothing else feeds his damage as directly, and Defense or HP rolls are wasted on a unit that either kills the target or gets deleted.
| Attribute type | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Base | Attack |
| Extra | Melee DMG, Ultimate DMG, Crit Rate, Crit Boost |
Note: Diavolo starts with just 5% Crit Rate and a ×2.00 Crit Factor at base, so Crit Rate rolls carry more weight early than Crit Boost. Once you are consistently critting, shift the priority toward Crit Boost and Ultimate DMG.

Best badge for Diavolo: Kenzou Badge
Kenzou Badge is the pick. It is a melee basic-attack set that grants the Flurry skill, which buffs basic attacks and Crit Rate, and it opens the Lethality tree once the badge reaches gold star rank. That matters because roughly half of Diavolo’s total damage in a long fight comes from basic attacks, not from his Ultimate.
Badges in Golden Spirit are not locked to the character whose face is on them, so ignore the name and read the trigger condition. Kenzou Badge gives the basic-attack proc and Crit Rate without the drawback attached to Akira Otoishi Badge, which raises damage taken by 20% — a penalty a squishy assassin cannot absorb.
Anubis Badge is the alternative, paired with Kenzou’s gems. It is workable but less reliable, because its value depends on enemies being crowd controlled, and that is not something Diavolo can produce on his own.

Badge gems: slot Gem of Fury
Fill the badge sockets with Gem of Fury. These gems raise Ultimate effectiveness, which is where Finished Now converts its 2000% Attack line into a genuine one-shot attempt. You get them by dismantling Rangler Badges, so hold onto any Lang Rangler pieces you pull rather than feeding them into generic upgrades.
Gem of Frenzy shows up in the same slots and is not the target. If you are running the Anubis Badge variant instead, Kenzou’s gems replace Fury in that setup.

How to confirm the build is working
Two checks tell you the setup is live. First, Diavolo should open every fight in Stealth for a full 10 seconds — if he does not, the 2-star passive is not unlocked. Second, his Energy bar should visibly refill after hits against an Isolated enemy rather than draining to zero and staying there. That refill is the S1 passive doing its job.
For a damage sanity check, run him against a boss target such as Tarukas and compare his single-target output to another established DPS on your roster. At Lv. 65 with the full build, his Power stat sits around 35.5K with base Attack near 18.3K, Defense at 4,627, and HP at 177.7K.

Common reasons the build underperforms
Most Diavolo problems trace back to a handful of specific gaps rather than bad luck with stat rolls.
- He is stuck below 3-star, so there is no Energy refund and his Ultimate rotation stalls.
- Time Erasure is still the active Ultimate instead of Finished Now.
- The Dramatic Scene set is mismatched, so the four-piece Defense penetration bonus never triggers.
- Nothing on the team applies Isolation before 5-star, leaving his penetration passive idle.
- He dies before the fight resolves. Agility units enter 3 seconds of Stealth after being hit below 60% HP, but that is a short reprieve, not sustain.
Positioning also matters. Agility characters lock onto the enemy in the counterpart position at the start of a battle and gain 5% Crit Rate while nothing is targeting them, so place him where he lines up with a target worth killing rather than into the enemy frontline.
Diavolo has no AoE and offers nothing to his teammates, which is the honest tradeoff for the burst. Build him as a specialist, park him next to a target you want removed, and keep his Ultimate cycling. Everything above exists to make that one window land.
