NTE Call of the Lost Walkthrough: Beat the Nestbound Bird

Where to start the commission, the team weakness that shortens the fight, and every reward you claim on victory.

The Nestbound Bird is a Class IV Bio-type anomaly boss in Neverness to Everness, fought during the Common Commission called Call of the Lost in the New Herland District. It hits hard, spends most of the fight airborne, and is weak to Cosmos damage. Clearing it once unlocks both the Anomaly Hunt and High-Risk versions of the same encounter.

Quick answer: Open the map, track Call of the Lost, climb to the helipad on top of Pink Paws Bank HQ at Oia Avenue, interact with the large red beam, then bring at least one Cosmos character and dodge until the Hotori cutscene triggers at roughly 30% HP for a free damage window.

Where to start Call of the Lost

The commission is anchored to the top of Pink Paws Bank HQ, located at Oia Avenue in the New Herland District. You reach the boss by climbing the outside of the tower and taking the stairs on the highest floor up to the helipad.

Open your map, select the Anomaly Commission menu, and scroll to Call of the Lost. Track it so the marker appears in the world.
Travel to Oia Avenue and climb the side of the Pink Paws Bank tower. Follow the circular balcony near the top until you find the ladder to the roof.
On the helipad, approach the large red beam hovering in the center and interact with it (press F when the prompt appears) to begin the boss fight.

After you clear it the first time, Fast Travel unlocks for the location, making repeat runs far quicker.

Boss details and weakness

The commission version puts you against a Level 67 Nestbound Bird. Its single exploitable weakness is Cosmos, so a team with at least one Cosmos character breaks its defenses faster and shortens the whole fight.

Teams that work against the Nestbound Bird

Build around a Cosmos damage dealer and fill the rest of the team with Anima and Lakshana characters to keep Esper Cycle reactions like Blossom, Remora, and Charge active. The Charge cycle restores Ultimate energy, so it keeps your burst windows online. If you are new to the fight, Chiz and Edgar are both reliable Cosmos picks.

TeamLineup
Charge teamNanally, Skia, Mint, Esper Zero
Alternate charge teamHathor, Jiuyuan, Mint, Edgar
Dual core teamLacrimosa, Esper Zero, Jiuyuan, Hotori

The general pattern is the same across these lineups. Keep an Anima unit attacking, swap a Cosmos unit in for a follow-up to hit the weakness, then bring in a Lakshana unit to start Charge and refill Ultimate energy for the whole team.

How to beat the Nestbound Bird

This boss is aggressive and chains long strings of attacks. Its melee swings and dive strikes can drop you in a few hits, so lean on Critical Dodges and Parry Attacks instead of trading blows. Trigger a Parry by landing a Basic Attack or skill as the red circle shrinks, then punish while the boss is downed.

Counter the projectile barrage

One key pattern has the Bird fly out of reach and rain projectiles down on you. Watch the prediction circles and dodge the rain, then keep dodging the fusillade that follows. The string ends with a lunging strike. Parry that lunge to leave the boss vulnerable for a short time.

Hold your Ultimates

The Bird spends most of the fight airborne, often at an awkward height, and flutters away mid-animation. Firing an Ultimate while it hovers high wastes most of the hits. Wait until it settles on the ground or drops low enough to catch every instance of the Ultimate.

Use the Hotori time-freeze window

Once the Nestbound Bird drops to around 30 to 35 percent HP, a short cutscene plays where Hotori steps in and freezes time. After it ends, the boss stays vulnerable for a long stretch. This is your best damage window, so unload skills and Ultimates during it. Around this point, masked minions also begin firing beams from the edges of the arena, so keep an eye on your positioning.

Phase 2 and the shrinking arena

The second phase begins at roughly 50% HP. The arena gradually closes in while beams fire from two masks, and near the end extra beams come from random angles. Keep dodging the beams and stay aware of the shrinking space. The Bird also floats up, throws two tracking attacks, then finishes with a stomp. Getting clipped by one hit usually chains into follow-up damage, so dodge the full sequence before you commit to attacking. If you have room, landing an attack the moment it lands from the high stomp triggers a Parry.

Rewards and how to confirm the clear

Defeating the boss finishes the Into the Empty Nest objective and shows the Nullification Complete screen with your rewards. Remember to contain the anomaly after the battle for a chance at the S-Rank Tears Beneath the Mask Arc, which applies Warning Gaze to enemies hit by the wearer’s Ultimate and reduces their damage by 18% for 20 seconds.

Anomaly Hunt and High-Risk variants

After the common commission is done, you can refight the Bird at the same helipad through Anomaly Hunt at any time. It costs 60 Character Pixels to claim rewards on a repeat kill, and the amounts scale with your Appraisal Level. Hunt rewards include Nest Guard Fragment, a character progression material, along with Magic Thread, Arcane Thread, Hunter EXP, and Beetle Coin.

The High-Risk variant, also called Call of the Lost, opens once you complete the common commission and reach Hunter Level 24. It runs across six difficulty tiers, each raising the boss’s level, HP, and damage.

DifficultyBoss Level
145
255
365
475
585
690

Difficulty tiers 5 and 6 add extra mechanics. Overload starts three minutes into the battle, ramping enemy and team ATK by 10% every 10 seconds while draining team HP. Hunter’s Gaze stacks enemy ATK by 10% per successful hit, and Perfect Rhythm restores 20% team HP and removes a Hunt stack when a Parry Attack lands. First-time clears of each tier grant Annulith, Fons, and Peril Hunt Medals, so those rewards can be claimed up to six times total.

Once you have the fight and team down, the Nestbound Bird becomes a steady source of Nest Guard Fragments through repeat Hunts, so it is worth spending stamina here regularly if you are leveling characters.
