Anime Apocalypse: Elf Mage and Axe Wielder Abilities (Journey’s End Update)

Full move breakdowns, upgrade multipliers, and the trait rolls worth chasing for both new Rare abilities.

Full move breakdowns, upgrade multipliers, and the trait rolls worth chasing for both new Rare abilities.

The Journey’s End Update dropped into Anime Apocalypse on 8/29/2026, and the headline additions are two new Rare abilities. Elf Mage is built around Frieren’s spell kit, while Axe Wielder swings Stark’s red axe. Both slot into the same loadout system as every other weapon in the game, which means the real work starts after you equip them.

Quick answer: Roll Elf Mage or Axe Wielder from the Ability gacha, equip it to an open Ability slot, reroll its trait until you hit Flash, then spend Coins on Damage and Cooldowns and leave Walkspeed alone.

Everything in the Journey’s End Update

The two abilities shipped alongside matching titles, cosmetics, pets, and bundles, plus a guild system and a new raid.

Elf Mage moveset

Elf Mage carries the description “A thousand years of magic, spent perfecting the most simple spell there is.” In practice it is a ranged kit with two big area attacks and a summon on the V slot.

InputMoveWhat it does
M1Basic attackStandard magic projectile
Skill 1ZoltraakInstant-cast projectile with almost no wind-up
Skill 2Destructive LightningPurple lightning AoE across a set area
Skill 3VolzanbielLarge red pillar explosion, the widest AoE in the kit
VCloningSpawns a clone that throws M1 attacks but stays put
GUltimateLarge energy sphere that detonates on the crowd

The clone is the one move to plan around. It does not follow you, so it only pays off if you drop it inside a spawn lane and keep fighting nearby rather than moving on. Running the kit through Shibuya Normal is the fastest way to see how far Volzanbiel actually reaches before you commit Coins to upgrades.

Axe Wielder moveset

Axe Wielder is the melee half of the pair. Every hit lands in close range, and the kit leans on repeated slashes rather than a single burst window.

InputMoveWhat it does
M1Basic attackRed axe slashes
Skill 1Slash BarrageRapid forward slashes in a straight line
Skill 2Meteor DropHeavy downward slam
Skill 3Aerial ComboMulti-hit airborne slash sequence
VSpin attackRotating hits around the player
GUltimateCinematic red slash sequence

Because Meteor Drop and Aerial Combo both leave you committed to an animation, this kit wants a crowd already grouped up in front of you. Pulling zombies together first and then opening with Slash Barrage keeps more of the hits on target.

How to get, equip, and upgrade both abilities

Open the Ability gacha with the E key and spin. Both new abilities sit in the Rare pool, which is the most common tier in the gacha, so Normal Spins are usually enough. Lucky Spins exist for higher rarities and are better saved for those.

Put the ability into an Ability slot. Slot 1 is the default carry position, and extra slots unlock with Gold or Robux if you want to swap between the two mid-session.
Spend Coins on the ability’s stat upgrades. Elf Mage’s upgrade panel scales Damage to 1.20x and Cooldowns to 1.06x, with Walkspeed sitting at 1.00x. Cooldowns and Damage are the only two worth funding, and upgrade resets do not refund Coins.

You will know an ability is live when its four skill icons replace your previous kit on the action bar. Skills map to Z, X, and C, the V move sits on V, and the Ultimate fires with G once the meter fills from kills.

Trait rerolling for Elf Mage and Axe Wielder

Traits attach to the ability itself, not to your character, and they are the single biggest multiplier on a fresh weapon. Rerolls cost trait crystals, and the reroll button sits directly under the current trait in the Traits menu.

Open the Traits menu with the new ability equipped and check what it rolled by default. Rolls seen on these two include Flash, Shinigami, Fortune, Zombie, Hunter, Reaper, Power, Swift, and Timer.

Reroll until you land Flash if you plan to run the ability in Survival or Infinite. Flash adds 25% attack speed and cuts cooldowns by 20%, which matters more on Elf Mage than raw damage because Zoltraak and Volzanbiel are cooldown-gated. Reaper is the alternative for raids, since its damage bonus climbs with kills up to a 50% cap.

Stop rerolling once the trait you want is displayed on the ability card. There is no confirmation prompt beyond the card updating, so read it before you spend another crystal.

Note: swapping an ability out of its slot deletes the trait sitting on it. Finish your rerolling on the weapon you actually intend to play, not on a placeholder. Trait crystals come from Survival and Infinite runs, and the highest difficulty pays out fastest.

Mastery milestones that change both kits

Mastery is tracked per weapon and rises by killing zombies while that ability is equipped. It is saved individually, so leveling Elf Mage does not slow down Axe Wielder later.

MasteryReward
25+2 Walkspeed
50+2 Damage
75+35% Damage
100Unlocks the V skill

That last row is why Cloning and the axe spin are not available on a freshly rolled weapon. Judge either ability on its first three skills and Ultimate until Mastery 100 lands.

Neither ability replaces the top of the roster on raw numbers, but both are cheap to obtain and cheap to invest in, which makes them a reasonable stopgap while you grind Spins for higher rarities. The game is in beta and balance passes are frequent, so treat the current upgrade multipliers as a snapshot of this patch rather than a fixed ceiling.
