Running Sparxie Without Sparkle: Pearl as Action Advancer (HSR 4.6)

How the Sparxie, Pearl, Yao Guang, and Trailblazer lineup held up across two Memory of Chaos runs.

How the Sparxie, Pearl, Yao Guang, and Trailblazer lineup held up across two Memory of Chaos runs.

Sparxie’s reputation is built on one uncomfortable dependency. She burns skill points faster than almost anything else in Honkai: Star Rail, and the standard answer has always been Sparkle sitting in the slot next to her, refilling the tank. Swapping Sparkle out for Pearl changes what that team is doing. Instead of a skill point battery, Sparxie gets a dedicated action advancer, and the skill point problem has to be solved from inside her own kit.

Quick answer: Pearl replaces Sparkle as Sparxie’s action advancer while Yao Guang stays in the team to supply Aha Instant windows. Sparxie funds her own Engagement Farming chains through Straight Fire procs and Thrill points, so the run only works if her chains are started with skill points already banked.

Why Pearl can cover for Sparkle in a Sparxie team

Sparxie’s Skill, Boom! Sparxicle’s Poppin’, starts a livestream and can trigger Engagement Farming up to 20 times in a single turn. Every trigger raises the damage multiplier on her Enhanced Basic ATK by 20% against the main target and 10% against adjacent enemies, and hands her one of two gifts. Straight Fire gives 2 Punchline points and returns 2 skill points. Unreal Banger gives 1 Punchline and nothing back.

That Straight Fire refund is the whole reason the Sparkle slot is negotiable. It does not make the chain free, but it softens the cost enough that a second source of skill points is not strictly mandatory. Her Elation Skill, Signal Overflow: The Great Encore!, also grants 2 Thrill, and each Thrill offsets one skill point Sparxie would otherwise consume. With more Elation allies on the field, the A4 trace piles on further Punchline and Thrill when she ultimates.

What Pearl brings instead is turn manipulation. Getting Sparxie back to acting sooner means more Enhanced Basic ATKs, and because every Enhanced Basic recovers 40 energy, faster turns also feed her 160-energy Ultimate. More Punchline then feeds the A6 trace, which grants every ally 8% CRIT DMG per Punchline owned, up to 80%.

The lineup and the builds behind it

The team is Sparxie, Pearl, Yao Guang, and the Trailblazer. Yao Guang is non-negotiable here, since Sparxie’s output collapses without regular Aha Instant windows to unlock the Elation Skill. Pearl takes the remaining flex slot that Sparkle usually occupies.

CharacterATKSPDCRIT Rate / DMG
Sparxie3233134.691.5% / 221.0%
Trailblazer2454170.091.5% / 128.1%
Yao Guang1433200.065.8% / 153.0%
Pearl1557133.011.4% / 62.9%

Sparxie sits on Dazzled by a Flowery World, her signature Light Cone. Yao Guang runs When She Decided to See at a very high 200 SPD, and Pearl uses Colors for Tomorrow with a defensive stat profile built around 4075 DEF rather than any offensive scaling. The relic and ornament pool across the four includes Elation Brimming With Blessings, Eagle of Twilight Line, Dreamlit Actor, Lushaka, the Sunken Seas, and Diviner of Distant Reach.

Note: Sparxie’s 3233 ATK matters more than it looks. Her A2 trace converts every 100 ATK above 2,000 into 5% Elation, capping at 80% once she reaches 3,600 ATK in combat. Buffs applied during the fight are what close that gap, so her sheet number sitting under 3,600 is expected rather than a build error.

Run one: 1,903,643 damage through Hoolay

The first run opens against Rocking Rebel and Decaying Shadow, which is where the Sparxie chains get established and the first Punchline stock is built. Her Ultimate lands early in the wave, adding 2 Punchline on top of whatever the chain generated and pushing the teamwide CRIT DMG buffer higher for the rest of the fight.

The second wave is Borisin Warhead: Hoolay, a single-target check that exposes whether the Pearl variant can keep pace without Sparkle’s skill point support.

Yao Guang’s Ultimate, Hexagram of Feathered Fortune, is the pivot point of the fight. It sets up the Aha Instant window, and Sparxie’s Elation Skill is meant to fire immediately inside it. That single sequence produces the largest damage spike of the cycle, since Signal Overflow delivers 50% Fire Elation DMG to all enemies plus 20 additional instances of 25% Fire Elation DMG to random targets.

The run closes with a total damage score of 1,903,643.

Run two: what E2 Sparxie changes

The second run uses an E2 Sparxie against Frigid Prowler and the Memory Zone Meme “Shell of Faded Rage” in wave one, then Stellaron Hunter: Sam in wave two. E2 is the eidolon that directly addresses the Pearl swap. When Aha Instant ends, Sparxie takes an extra turn and gains 2 Thrill, and every Thrill she consumes gives her 10% CRIT DMG for 2 turns, stacking up to four times.

That extra turn is effectively a second action advance layered on top of what Pearl already provides, and the two Thrill are two skill points she does not have to find elsewhere. E1 comes along with it, granting 5 Punchline when Aha Instant ends and converting Punchline count into All-Type RES PEN for the whole team, up to 15%.

Rotation order for the Pearl variant

Open the fight with Sparxie’s Technique where possible. It inflicts Block on nearby enemies for 10 seconds, and entering combat by attacking a Blocked enemy deals Fire DMG equal to 50% of her ATK to all enemies and restores 2 skill points to the team.
Let Yao Guang, Pearl, and the Trailblazer take their turns first and bank skill points. Starting Sparxie’s chain on an empty reserve cuts Engagement Farming short and costs you Punchline you cannot recover later in the cycle.
Trigger the Skill and run Engagement Farming as far as the skill point pool and Straight Fire refunds allow, then finish with Bloom! Winner Takes All. Each trigger you added raises the Enhanced Basic multiplier and, during Certified Banger, adds one extra instance of 20% Fire Elation DMG.
Hold the 160-energy Ultimate until it can line up with Yao Guang’s rotation, then use the Elation Skill inside the Aha Instant window rather than saving it. Pearl’s advance goes on Sparxie so she reaches that window on schedule.

Why the Sparkle-free version underperforms

There are only a few ways this composition falls apart, and none of them are subtle.

SymptomCause
Chains ending after only a handful of triggersSkill activated before the skill point reserve was rebuilt; Straight Fire refunds alone cannot sustain a long chain from zero
Elation DMG numbers far lower than expectedCombat ATK sitting well under 3,600, leaving the A2 Elation bonus short of its 80% cap
Burst window producing little damageElation Skill used outside an Aha Instant, or Yao Guang’s Ultimate not available when Sparxie is ready
Team CRIT DMG staying lowPunchline count too low for the A6 trace, which needs 10 Punchline to reach its 80% ceiling

The takeaway from both runs is narrow but useful. Pearl is a viable stand-in for the fourth slot, because Sparxie’s own Straight Fire refunds and Thrill points cover part of what Sparkle used to hand her, and the extra actions convert directly into more Enhanced Basic hits and faster Ultimates. Yao Guang is the piece that cannot be swapped. Take her out and there is no Aha Instant to burst inside, and the entire chain of Punchline, CRIT DMG, and Elation damage stops paying off.
