Elouisa’s stage of the village questline splits into two very different jobs. First you have to get yourself to the top of a floating island and switch on a Flowstone Gate, which involves a lot of gliding and almost no combat. Then you have to go bug hunting with smoke bombs.
Quick answer: Glide east from the main island, ride the wind updrafts up to the tall tower, climb the vines and wall panels to the summit, and step onto the portal to activate the Flowstone Gate. Then take Elouisa’s 10 Standard Smoke Bombs, catch six Ancient Flowbugs on the nearby lower islands, and hand them in at the gate for +5 Renown.
It Takes a Village – Elouisa: Objectives and rewards
The quest runs in a fixed order, and the second objective only appears once the gate is live. Here is what each stage asks for and what it pays out.
| Stage | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Activate the island’s Flow Gate | — |
| 2 | Talk with Elouisa at the gate | +10 Standard Smoke Bomb |
| 3 | Catch Flowbugs (0/6) | — |
| 4 | Return to Elouisa | +5 Renown |
Standard Smoke Bombs are a Common Equipment item worth 1 each. Ten is enough for the six bugs if you land your throws, and you can bring your own stock as backup.

The route is a glider course. Nothing here can kill you, but losing altitude means backtracking, so treat every updraft as a checkpoint.

You will know it worked when the message “The Flowstone Gate whirs to life” appears and the portal becomes usable. Elouisa teleports straight to the gate at that point, so there is no walk back. Talk to her to bank the objective and collect 10 Standard Smoke Bombs.
How to catch six Ancient Flowbugs
Ancient Flowbugs are small, glowing purple insects that sit on the sand of the floating islands around the gate. They do not need a net swing. They need to be dazed first.

Note: throw the bomb close enough that the cloud actually covers the bug. A bomb that lands short wastes a charge, and you only start with ten.
Handing in the quest and confirming it completed
Once the counter hits 6/6, the tracker updates to “Return to Elouisa”. She stays at the activated Flowstone Gate, so glide or ride the updrafts back up to her rather than heading to the main island.
Talk to her and hand over the bugs. A “Quest Completed!” banner appears alongside +5 Renown, and the quest drops out of your active tracker. The gate stays usable afterwards as a fast travel point, and the Return to Housing Plot option is still available from it.
Why the quest may not progress
- You stood near the Flowstone Gate but did not step onto the portal itself. Standing beside it does not trigger activation.
- You activated the gate but skipped the conversation with Elouisa, so the Flowbug objective never appeared.
- Your bug-catching belt is not equipped, which leaves you unable to throw smoke bombs at the Flowbugs.
- You are trying to grab a Flowbug before dazing it. The smoke has to land first.
- You have fewer than six bugs. The turn-in only registers at 6/6.
The whole thing is short once you know the route, and the awkward part is the climb rather than the bugs. If you overshoot a platform mid-glide, drop back to the bridge level and pick the updraft chain up again from there instead of trying to recover height in mid-air.
