Genma Griller is one of the small combat unlocks tucked into the back half of the Onimusha: Way of the Sword trophy list, and it trips people up for a single reason: the fire has to land on three enemies at the same time, not three enemies over the course of a fight. Burn one, kill it, burn two more, and the counter gives you nothing.
Quick answer: Get three Genma standing close together, then apply fire to all of them in one action — either a spinning Oni attack performed right next to a burning fire source, or an oil coating followed by the flaming bird skill while its fire icon is white.
What the Genma Griller trophy actually checks
The unlock condition is “set three enemies ablaze at once.” The game is looking for three separate enemies carrying the burning status in the same instant. That means your setup work happens before the fire, not after it — positioning first, ignition second.
Nothing about it is missable. Onimusha: Way of the Sword has no missable trophies at all, and you keep free roam right up until the point of no return before the final mission, “The Clash At Rendaino.” If you skip Genma Griller during the story, you can clean it up during that window or on your New Game+ run.
| Method | What you need | Best used when |
|---|---|---|
| Spinning Oni attack near fire | An active fire source in the arena, three enemies beside it | Rooms that already have something burning |
| Oil plus flaming bird | Oil, the flaming bird skill charged (fire icon white) | Open fights with several large Genma |

Add to Google Preferences →Method 1: Spin attack beside a lit fire source
This is the version that costs you nothing but patience. A spinning Oni attack performed next to an already-burning fire carries that fire outward to whatever is standing around you.

Method 2: Oil the group, then use the flaming bird skill
If there is no fire in the room, you can bring your own. Oil makes enemies flammable, and the flaming bird skill supplies the ignition across a wide enough area to catch a packed group.

How to confirm the unlock and why it fails
The trophy notification appears the moment the third enemy catches fire, mid-combat, with no need to finish the fight or reach a save point. If the fire lands but nothing pops, one of a few things went wrong.
- Only two enemies were inside the effect — the third was outside the spin arc or the flaming bird’s spread.
- One enemy died to the same hit that lit the others, so three were never burning together.
- The flaming bird was used before its fire icon turned white.
- The oil only stuck to part of the group before the ignition went out.
Tip: enemies with more health are the easier target here. Weaker Genma tend to die from the fire application itself, which quietly drops your count below three before the game checks.
Genma Griller sits alongside the rest of the combat feats — the parry, Issen, and armor-break counters — that you can knock out during the collectible sweep before the final mission, when you are already backtracking through Kyoto with upgraded skills. If you keep a manual save at that point of no return, any attempt you botch is a reload away from another try.
