Sony ran two showcases back-to-back in September 2026, pairing a standard State of Play with a second broadcast built around games from studios across Japan and Asia. The result was a heavy dose of new reveals, firm release dates, and expansions for some of the year’s biggest hits. Here is what actually stood out and when you can play it.
Quick answer: The main show closed with a confirmed April 8, 2027 release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, while the biggest brand-new reveals were Maneater 2, Until Dawn 2, Rhapsody in Scarlet, Hunter’s Moon, and Gundam: Rogue Orbit. The Japan-focused follow-up added Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, Fate/Extra Record, and DABA: Land of Water Scar.
The headline reveals from the main show
The broadcast opened with a clip from the live-action Resident Evil film ahead of its September 18 premiere, then gave Marvel’s Wolverine one final trailer before its September 15 launch. That trailer leaned into Bolivar Trask’s mutant-hunting program and the Sentinel robots.
Ghost of Yotei followed with a new single-player roguelite survival mode called Most Wanted, which lets you take on run-based bounty hunts as several characters, including Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. It arrives October 1 alongside a Complete Edition and the story expansion Ghosts of Sekigahara.
The show saved its biggest moment for the end. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the remake trilogy, locked in an April 8, 2027 release date and ran a roughly 10-minute gameplay segment. The demo covered airship travel aboard the Highwind, the FITS combat system, Queen’s Blood, fast-forwarding cutscenes, and even a cat-photography side activity in Wutai.
New games revealed for the first time
Several titles debuted with no prior announcement. Maneater 2 continues the shark-RPG formula, this time centered on a shark trying to escape a luxury resort called Neptune’s Kingdom, and it launches in 2027. Until Dawn 2 resurfaced after a long silence with a January 28, 2027 date, following a ghost-hunting TV crew who explore an abandoned island.
Konami had a busy night. Rhapsody in Scarlet is a fast-paced action game set in an alternate 1920s New York, where the magus Ellie Myers fights a world-ending threat with a magical wolf companion. Its stablemate Rev. Noir is an anime-styled action RPG about a boy named Asch trying to stop a catastrophe, launching in 2027.
On the indie side, Hunter’s Moon is a first-person folk-horror game set in 17th-century England during the witch hunts, arriving October 26 just before Halloween. Uncanyon, from Maquette developer Graceful Decay, is a reality-bending puzzle game due in 2027. Double Fine’s Keeper, about a walking lighthouse, also arrived on PS5 the same day as the show after its stint as an Xbox exclusive.
State of Play Japan: Asia-focused reveals
The second broadcast opened with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, the most ambitious entry in the series yet. It packs more than 130 characters and six playable races, including a new Android race, and returns systems like Fighting Styles, Soul Assist, and Awoken Skills. It is set for 2027.
Fate/Extra Record, a remake of the 2010 original with overhauled visuals and a deck-building command battle system, arrives January 28, 2027. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World brings its monster-taming loop and a new Wrangler’s Gauntlet mode on December 3, 2026.
PlayStation’s China Hero Project surfaced DABA: Land of Water Scar, an action RPG where you play an awakened Clayman in a mythical world of ruin, due in spring 2027. WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority sets its paranormal action in Seoul, and the pirate action game CONQ: Crown of No Quarter is also planned for 2027. On the crossover front, Sloclap’s football game Rematch teams up with the Blue Lock anime in Season 5, arriving September 24, 2026.
Expansions and DLC on the way
Some of 2026’s biggest games got major add-ons. Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown returns to Pywel with protagonist Kliff and teammates Oongka and Damaine, introducing castle customization, settlement management, and underwater exploration. It launches October 15, 2026.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance adds new monsters, gear, and locations in 2027, and got a fuller story trailer plus a producer interview during the Japan show. Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is a full expansion set three years after the base game, tasking a new hero with rewriting the past. It launches worldwide in 2027.

Hardware, PS Plus, and other updates
Beyond the games, Sony confirmed a Lego set modeled on the original PlayStation, a 1:1 replica with over 1,900 pieces and diorama scenes inside. Two limited-edition GTA VI DualSense controllers were also shown in white and black finishes, shipping November 19 to line up with Grand Theft Auto VI.
The subscription service picked up new additions too. Co-op looter shooter Mycopunk joins the PS Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog, while Mega Man X: Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2, and the original Ratchet & Clank are heading to the Classics catalog through the rest of 2026.
Two ongoing games detailed free updates. Housemarque’s Saros gets the Zenith update later in 2026, adding an Overlord Rush boss-rush mode, a New Game+ layer called Eclipse Layers, and new accessibility options. Gran Turismo 7 lines up its Spec IV update in two parts, the first in October and the second in December, bringing the SUGO Circuit, the returning Autumn Ring, 12 new cars, and a casual Family Mode.
Notably absent were fresh looks at God of War Laufey and Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, both of which sat out the shows. Even so, the double bill delivered a full slate of dates for the rest of 2026 and a clear roadmap into 2027, capped by that long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Revelation launch window.
