Crimson Desert is getting its first paid expansion, and it is not far off. Pearl Abyss used the September 3 PlayStation State of Play to reveal Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, a story add-on that picks up after the base game’s ending and pushes Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane out onto the water.
Quick answer: Charting the Unknown launches October 15, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for $24.99 (£19.99), it requires the base game, and pre-ordering grants the Charter’s Diving set and Charter’s Light Diving set.
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown release date, price, and platforms
The expansion arrives about a month from the reveal, which is a short runway by DLC standards. Pearl Abyss has not published a specific unlock hour, so treat October 15 as the date and nothing more precise than that.

Mac owners are the odd ones out. The Mac release of Crimson Desert is not part of the launch plan for the expansion, and Pearl Abyss has said it will announce any change to that.
The reveal trailer and what it confirms
The reveal footage was captured on a PS5 Pro and runs a little over two minutes, opening on desert vistas before turning almost entirely maritime. It ends on the title card, the October 15 date, and the pre-order bonus screen.
Story specifics are deliberately thin. Pearl Abyss describes the expansion as the continuation of Pywel’s story, with the three leads setting out to work out their purpose while unrest builds around them. The characters appear noticeably older than they did in the base campaign, which lines up with the DLC picking up after the ending rather than slotting into the middle of it.
Reclaim power and reach beyond – into the unknown.

New gameplay systems: sailing, diving, and base building
Crimson Desert already had an uncomfortable number of systems bolted onto it. Charting the Unknown adds several more, and the water-facing ones are the headline.
Naval travel is in. Kliff captains a full-size ship in the trailer, with sequences that read as ship-to-ship combat at sea. Beneath the surface, there is free swimming, underwater ruins to poke around in, some kind of propulsion device, and a sequence where Kliff grabs onto a shark and lets it tow him along. Water-walking also shows up briefly.
On land, the expansion introduces a home and base-building layer. The footage covers castle construction, interior decorating, and hiring workers, with NPCs seen cooking on site.

There is also a romance thread. One shot has a character handing flowers to a witch, and another plays out as a marriage proposal. Pearl Abyss has not detailed how any of that works mechanically.

Combat gets fed too. New bosses, several of them very large, appear across the trailer, and the expansion is set to add new weapons and armor kits on top of the existing loadout.

Pre-order bonus: Charter’s Diving set and Charter’s Light Diving set
Ordering early unlocks cosmetic diving gear split across the three protagonists. Kliff and Oongka get the Charter’s Diving set, while Damiane gets the Charter’s Light Diving set. Both are billed as a pre-order exclusive bonus in the trailer’s end card.
Note: the bonus is tied to the storefront you buy from, so pre-order on the platform you actually play Crimson Desert on. Cross-save moves your progress between systems, but a store entitlement stays with the account that bought it.
How Charting the Unknown fits into Crimson Desert’s post-launch run
Crimson Desert shipped in March and has been patched continuously since, including the removal of generative AI art, narrative rewrites, cross-save support, and a run of feature updates. The Enhanced upgrade landed for free the month before this reveal, folding in every prior patch along with new skills, story additions, extra language support, and a reworked skill acquisition system.
The game has sold more than 6 million copies. A Switch 2 version is in development and was not part of this reveal, and Pearl Abyss has separately said it is looking at multiplayer and live service directions for the franchise.

Everything beyond the confirmed date, price, platforms, and pre-order bonus is still trailer footage rather than documented design. Pearl Abyss did not publish a feature breakdown alongside the announcement, so the exact rules behind ship combat, homesteading, and romance remain unconfirmed until closer to launch.
