Curious Houses are Svartrau City’s locked-door puzzles. Six of them are scattered across the capital, each marked on the map with a white door icon, and each one hides a small self-contained quest that pays out in gear, skill manuals, or a thread that leads into a bigger questline. None of them can be opened from the street.
Quick answer: There are 6 Curious Houses, all inside Svartrau City. Visit them at night, use Coen’s vampiric traversal to reach the open balcony or window on the upper floor, then hold L2/LT for Focus Mode and interact with every yellow-highlighted object until the mini quest closes.
How to identify a Curious House on the map
Curious Houses appear only in Svartrau City, never out in Vale Sangora, and they use a white door icon rather than a quest marker. The ground-floor entrance is always barred, so the icon points at the building, not at a door you can walk through. Nothing triggers when you approach from the street, which is why several of them are easy to walk past for hours.
Each house runs its own short quest that begins the moment you get inside and ends when you have inspected everything the game highlights. There is no NPC to talk to and no reward hand-off.

Note: one Curious House rooftop is also where the Tiny Dancer quest starts. If you hear a sound above the building, follow it into the attic, grab the cage key from the desk, and free the Sanzhana inside.

Curious Houses with gear and quest items (Houses 1 and 2)
The east-side house is the only one with a real fight at the entry point. You scale the outer stone wall, slip through a barred window, and land on an Ambrus’s Soldier waiting inside. Clearing him opens up the best single haul of the six: the Azure Puresteel Plate, a Well-Weighted Longsword, an Amulet of Focus, and the Recipe for Minor Vigour Infusion.
The same room holds the Mysterious Instruction, a coded note that belongs to the Manumit cache puzzle rather than to the house itself. It can also surface in other stashes around the city, so finding it here is not your only shot at it.
House 2 sits in north-central Svartrau and is a much quieter stop. Climb to the wooden balcony and you drop into a tailor’s workshop stacked with paperwork. Reading the notes addressed to the master tailor, along with the instructions left for him, closes out Weaves of Rebellion, and the Noble’s Azure Buskins are in the same room.

Curious Houses that hand over skill manuals (Houses 3 and 4)
The central-east house has the one piece of hidden geometry in the set. You enter through the balcony into a bedroom that looks finished, but a heavy bookshelf against the wall can be pushed aside to reveal a concealed study behind it. The Burning Blood Manual is in there, along with a Potent Vigour Infusion, and inspecting the room’s notes wraps up Working Her Magic.

House 4, in the middle of the city, is the grim one. The balcony leads into a room with a dead woman still inside it, and the note from her mother explains how she ended up sealed in. Reading it and the proclamation of treason nearby completes Faith and Punishment. The Evil Eye Manual is the payout.

Curious Houses tied to the Destroyed Shrines questline (Houses 5 and 6)
These two are worth doing in order, because the first one opens the second. In the south-central house, the balcony leads into a room built around a desk. Inspecting the Map of Wayside Shrines on it starts Destroyed Shrines: Hidden & Safe, and working through the rest of the marked objects, including the letters left on the desk, completes Enshrined Obsession.

The south-east house is the hardest of the six. Several guards are posted inside, and you have to clear them before you can pick up the Hidden Shrine’s Heart. Take the Heart to the desecrated altar and use it to restore the shrine, which completes Destroyed Shrines: A Hidden Shrine.

Confirming a Curious House is finished
The mini quest closes itself the moment the last highlighted object in the house has been inspected. You get the completion notification on screen and the entry moves out of your active quest list. If you have looted the room but the quest is still open, something highlighted is still unread.
Two things account for almost every stuck attempt. Turning up in daylight leaves you with no way to reach the upper floor, and looting containers without holding L2/LT means you never see the notes and letters that actually count as objectives.
Clearing all six is a night’s work if you plan the route, and the payoff is front-loaded toward the middle of the list. Houses 3 and 4 hand over two skill manuals, House 1 covers your armour and weapon slot early, and Houses 5 and 6 hook you into the shrine restoration chain that keeps running well past Svartrau’s walls.
