The Frostshard Stone is the Tarstone that turns your sidearm into a frost weapon, and it is tucked away behind one of the more awkward detours in Mortal Shell 2. It sits past a boss fight, past a hidden passage, and past a freezing zone that chips away at your health the whole time you are in it. Nothing about the route is signposted, so it is easy to walk right past the entrance.
Quick answer: Cleanse the Sisters’ Gate beacon to open the Corrupted Gate, fight through to Ovate’s Chamber and kill Draeg, the Conqueror, then cleanse the Conqueror’s Hoard beacon and take the hidden path directly behind the beacon structure. The Frostshard Stone is in the stone chest at the far end of the statue bridge.
Frostshard Stone effects and sidearm compatibility
Frostshard Stone is an Infusion-type Tarstone. Slot it into a sidearm and it spends Resolve to coat your shots in Frost. Upgrading it does not change the Resolve cost, it changes how long the coating sticks around before you have to pay for it again.
| Tier | What it does |
|---|---|
| Base effect | Consumes 20 Resolve to infuse your Sidearm with Frost |
| First upgrade | Infusion lasts for 4 shots |
| Second upgrade | Infusion lasts for 8 shots |
| Final upgrade | Infusion is permanent |
The important restriction is compatibility. Frostshard Stone only works with the Triarch Repeater. If that sidearm is not in your kit yet, the Tarstone will sit unused in your inventory, so grab it when you are ready to actually build around rapid frost application.

Add to Google Preferences →Opening the Corrupted Gate and reaching Draeg, the Conqueror
Everything starts near the Outskirts of Mammon beacon. The Corrupted Gate stays shut until you light the beacon that gates it, so this first leg is mandatory even if you already know where the chest is.

The hidden path behind the Conqueror’s Hoard beacon
This is where most people stop, because the beacon looks like the end of the area. It is not. There is a passage tucked directly behind the beacon structure itself.

Confirming the pickup and the reasons the route fails
You know it worked when Frostshard Stone shows up in the Tarstones menu under Infusions, with the line about consuming 20 Resolve to infuse your sidearm with Frost. Equip it to the Triarch Repeater and the frost effect becomes available on your sidearm shots.
Three things stop people from getting there. The Corrupted Gate will not open if the Sisters’ Gate beacon has not been cleansed. The Conqueror’s Hoard beacon does not exist until Draeg, the Conqueror is dead, so there is no hidden path to find beforehand. And the passage behind the beacon is genuinely easy to miss, since it reads as scenery rather than a route.
Note: the frost damage in the snowy area is continuous, not triggered by enemies. If your health is sliding while nothing is attacking you, you have simply spent too long away from a bonfire.
Upgrading the Frostshard Stone at the Tarforge
Tarstone upgrades run through Franz at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep, but he cannot do the higher tiers until you hand him the Etching Needle. That quest item comes from a bone chest just before the Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods boss fight. When you spot Ruk past the bridge, drop down through the opening and turn right before the tunnel to find the small side area holding the chest.
After Franz has the needle, upgrades still need experience. Keep the Frostshard Stone equipped and kill enemies until its XP bar fills, then return to Marrow Keep and pay Coin to push it to the next level. Repeat that cycle and the infusion goes from a short burst of shots to permanent, which is the point where the Triarch Repeater stops feeling like it needs constant Resolve babysitting.
The detour is worth doing on the same visit as the boss fight rather than coming back later. The beacon is already lit, the enemies on the bridge are already thinned out, and you walk away with two Tarstones instead of one.
