FC 27 FUT: New Features and Game Modes Explained

A rundown of every confirmed change coming to Football Ultimate Team and the full mode lineup at launch.

A rundown of every confirmed change coming to Football Ultimate Team and the full mode lineup at launch.

Football Ultimate Team in EA Sports FC 27 is getting its largest structural rework in years, with changes aimed squarely at cutting down repetitive menu grinding and giving unused cards a purpose. The game launches worldwide on 25 September 2026, and the mode keeps its familiar competitive loop while adding new collection, progression, and reward systems on top.

Quick answer: The headline FUT additions are the Gallery, Hall of FUT player items, score-based SBCs with 1-Click completion, End of Match Rewards, branching Evolutions, a unified Campaign Hub, Event Tokens, and Single Player Live Events. The mode lineup stays broadly the same as before.

The Gallery is a permanent collection layer that records the players you earn across the season, including duplicates and cards you would otherwise sell. Collections are built around conditions like leagues, clubs, nations, rarities, and seasons, with slots you fill manually or through an Auto Complete option.

Once a collection is full, you grade it. Grades run from D up to S based on the quality and combination of players used, and higher grades hand out better rewards such as coins, kits, badges, cosmetics, exclusive items, and Gallery Tokens. You can revisit any Gallery later, swap in higher-rated or special cards, and regrade it to chase the rewards you missed. Items also appear in your Gallery over time to reflect your club’s history.

Gallery Tokens feed the Hall of FUT, a set of 17 launch cards celebrating cult favourites including Hulk, Adebayo Akinfenwa, and Marouane Fellaini. Premium tiers also hand out holographic cards, which carry a unique appearance and can include a player signature.

Score-based SBCs and 1-Click completion

Squad Building Challenges drop the old chemistry and team-rating requirements in favour of a single squad-score threshold. Every card is worth a point value that scales with its quality and rarity, and you simply submit enough players from your Club or Duplicates to hit the target score.

That turns each SBC into a question of how much you are willing to sacrifice. An SBC asking for 300 points could be met with 30 bronze cards at 10 points each, 15 silvers at 20 points, or 10 golds at 30 points. Some light restrictions remain. One example shown required cards rated between 65 and 75, but that was the only limit in place.

On top of that, 1-Click SBC lets eligible challenges auto-build a valid squad from your club with a single button press. You can exclude cards you want to protect, such as Evolution players, favourites, and First Owner items, so nothing valuable is submitted by accident.

End of Match Rewards and coin changes

Reward pacing shifts away from infrequent weekly drops toward what EA calls End of Match Rewards. You now earn more coins and season points after every game, delivered in real time rather than only at objective completion or a weekly reset.

More coin payouts and tradable packs are also part of the mix, widening the variety of rewards. The intent is to make upgrading your team feel steadier and less dependent on grinding SBCs or spending real money on FC Points. If you want a faster start, the Ultimate Edition still bundles bonus items and early access from 18 September 2026.

Evolutions, Campaign Hub, and Event Tokens

Evolutions receive their biggest redesign since launch. Many now run across six stages with branching pathways, so you choose which attributes to develop at each step. One branch might prioritise pace and dribbling while another focuses on defending, passing, or physicality. You can also preview the full chain before committing to a player.

The Campaign Hub pulls live content into one screen, grouping objectives, squads, SBCs, Evolutions, milestones, and seasonal events so you no longer hop between tabs to track everything. Event Tokens act as a flexible currency earned through objectives, themed events, and tournaments, letting you spend them on packs, player items, cosmetics, or Evolution upgrades based on your own priorities. PlayStyles Lab is also returning.

Card rarity, PlayStyles, and pack changes

Base bronze, silver, and gold cards no longer split into rare and common versions. That removes a mostly cosmetic divide that only ever mattered for SBC requirements, so packs no longer carry rarity guarantees. The overall ratings you pull are expected to feel similar to FC 26.

Pull rates still vary between players of the same rating. Among 82-rated cards, for example, players with meta stats like pace or strength, or with stronger chemistry options, appear less often than others. A few smaller tweaks round out the card system.

  • Players can equip up to three PlayStyle+ items, down from five in FC 26.
  • All special items released in FC 27 gain Role++ familiarity for every role they can play.
  • Holographic cards have a distinct look and may show a player signature.

Fewer promo squads and tighter overalls

FC 27 runs five fewer promo campaigns across the year, which works out to at least 10 weeks without an active promo live in the mode. That gap is meant to let the meta settle so the squad ability curve does not break within the first few weeks.

The rating gap between the best and worst players in a single campaign is also being narrowed, and squads will be smaller where possible. That should reduce the frustration of packing a promo card only to find it is the weakest of the set.

Single Player Live Events and themed AI

Single-player content expands with new Live Events and themed AI opponents, giving more variety to the squads you face offline. Some of these events use dynamic difficulty, ramping up the challenge between games in formats like knockout tournaments, similar to how single-player draft already handles it.

Squad Battles difficulty settings stay as they are. Events can feature connected challenges, custom opposition squads, and specific match objectives, with rewards tied to how far you progress.

FC 27 FUT game modes

The mode lineup carries over from previous years with no major removals. Here is what you can play inside Ultimate Team and how each mode works.

ModeHow it works
ChampionsThe premier competitive mode. Qualify through Rivals, then play a weekly campaign of up to 15 matches for tiered rewards.
ChallengersA weekly competition for Division 7 and below, structured like Champions but aiming for up to five wins.
Division RivalsSeasonal online play with skill-based matchmaking and divisions, solo or co-op, and the route into Champions.
RushFast 5v5 matches where each player controls a single footballer, played with friends or others.
DraftBuild a temporary squad from random picks, including players you do not own, then play a four-round knockout online or against AI.
Squad BattlesSingle-player matches against community-built AI squads, up to 14 eight-minute games per weekly campaign.
MomentsShort single-player scenarios with set objectives that award Stars for rewards.
Live EventsLimited-time competitions with unique rules and rewards, split into multiplayer and single-player versions.
FriendliesCasual online and offline matches, including Play a Friend and local Couch Play, with no impact on ranked progression.

Taken together, these changes keep the core gameplay loop intact while spreading rewards more evenly and giving your collection a lasting role. Full pre-order and edition details are available on the official FC 27 page, with Ultimate and Ultimate Plus editions offering up to seven days of early access ahead of the 25 September 2026 launch.
